Shōta, you'll be as shiny as present mic soon

Hey everyone! So thrilled you're joining me for Bedazzling Shota Pt 2, where we're taking our favorite grumpy hero, Shota Aizawa, from cool to dazzling! If you caught my last post, you know we started the foundation for his transformation. This time, I’m diving deeper into the nitty-gritty details that really make a custom anime figure pop. One of the most common questions I get about bedazzling figures is about the materials. For this project, I’ve been using a mix of flat-back rhinestones in various sizes and a strong, clear-drying craft glue. My top tip? Always test your glue on a small, inconspicuous area first, especially if it's your first time working with that particular brand. You want something that holds well but doesn't leave visible residue. I also recommend using a wax-tipped tool or a pair of fine-tipped tweezers to pick up and place individual rhinestones – it makes a world of difference for precision! This particular stage of bedazzling Shota involved working on his iconic capture weapon. I wanted to give it a subtle, yet noticeable shimmer, almost like a faint glow. This meant choosing smaller, iridescent stones and applying them sparingly, focusing on the edges and folds of the fabric. It's a delicate process, and patience is definitely key! There were a few moments where I accidentally smudged glue or placed a stone slightly off, but don't worry, these things happen. A bit of rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab can often clean up fresh glue mistakes without damaging the figure's paint. Another aspect I've been focusing on is ensuring the bedazzling enhances, rather than overwhelms, Aizawa's original design. It's easy to get carried away with all the sparkle, but the goal is to make him 'shiny as Present Mic' in a way that suits his character. For example, I’m planning to add a few subtle, darker rhinestones to areas like his boots to mimic the texture and add depth, rather than just uniform glitter. For those of you thinking about starting your own custom anime figure project, my biggest piece of advice is to plan ahead. Sketch out your ideas, decide on your color palette, and gather all your materials before you begin. It saves so much time and frustration. Also, don't be afraid to experiment!
