“They don’t pay attention to US” 🥺
A few months back I was honored with the opportunity by @midwestleak & @real983fm alongside @mseklass & @sistastrutindy to co-host a historical breast cancer 🎀 event, where @irafilmmaker & “Rhonda Green” premiered a collaborative film where only black creatives were involved ✊🏿 to highlight stories from families and survivors effected by #breastcancer 🫶🏿
It was an honor to be apart of the panel to ask questions and gain more insight on the journey and what it took to produce such a film 💎 should we have more events like this in Indy? Has breast cancer affected you or a loved one before? @sistastrutindy is the community to be apart of FOR US if so 🔥 are you familiar with them? 👀

Attending the "Sista-Strut" breast cancer awareness event was a truly moving experience that highlighted the power of community and representation. One of the most striking aspects was how the event focused exclusively on stories from Black families and survivors, brought to life through a collaborative film by Black creatives. This not only shed light on the unique challenges faced within the Black community but also emphasized the importance of culturally relevant storytelling in healthcare awareness. The panel discussion offered profound insights into the journey of producing such a film, emphasizing the dedication and passion behind bringing these often-overlooked narratives to the forefront. It was inspiring to see how the event organizers, including @sistastrutindy, are creating spaces specifically "FOR US"—meaning Black individuals affected by breast cancer—making it clear that their experiences are valid and deserving of attention. From personal reflection, I realized that awareness events like these do more than just inform; they build a supportive network where survivors and families can share their journeys and uplift each other. It made me consider how many similar communities might exist elsewhere, quietly supporting one another and fighting for recognition and better resources. Moreover, the aesthetic of the event—complete with vibrant pink themes symbolizing breast cancer awareness and the energy of an empowering pep rally—added a celebratory yet purposeful atmosphere encouraging participation and solidarity. For anyone interested in breast cancer awareness, especially within the Black community, engaging with initiatives like "Sista-Strut" is invaluable. If you've been personally impacted or know someone who has, this community provides comfort, information, and the strength of shared experience. I highly recommend checking out the full vlog coverage available on the "Kickin It With 2KOLD" YouTube channel to get an in-depth look at the event and its heartfelt impact.
