Taiwan Day 6 🌥️🌲🍜

Woke up at 5:30am hoping to catch the sunrise… only to be greeted by clouds 🌥️😂. But no worries — a hearty homemade breakfast at our homestay set the tone right 🍳🥢

Got active on the Tea & Mist Trail 🌲⛰️ — 2-3 hours of slopes, stairs, and wind in our face, but the view on top (literally above the clouds) was worth every step! 🏞️💨

After heading down the mountain, we checked into our hotel and switched vibes — explored the old Chiayi Prison 🏚️ (creepy but cool, and the only time I’d willingly step into a prison cell haha). Strolled Hinoki Village after, with a sweet waffle + ice cream break🍦

Wrapped the day at Wenhua Road Night Market 🏮🍢 — feasting on kway chup soup, pig intestine soup, oyster omelette, stinky tofu soup, mala fishballs… and the ultimate winner of the night: ROU JIA MO 🥯🐖🔥Crispy baked bread, juicy pork filling — absolute perfection. Singapore needs this ASAP 😭❤️

What a day — from failed sunrise to foodie heaven, Taiwan keeps surprising me 🌟

... Read moreIf you're planning to visit Taiwan, especially the Alishan area, I highly recommend downloading and using the EasyCard. It’s incredibly convenient for public transportation, making it easier to hop between places like Chiayi, the Alishan National Scenic Area, and local night markets. When it comes to night markets, while Wenhua Road Night Market is a must-visit for its varied street food including stinky tofu and oyster omelette, Taiwan has several other famous options such as the Raohe and Shilin night markets in Taipei. Each market has its unique vibe and delicacies, so if you have the time, explore multiple markets for a full foodie experience. For those interested in nature and scenic views, Alishan National Forest Recreation Area is perfect. The Tea & Mist Trail I hiked was challenging but the reward was incredible — being literally above the clouds. Remember to pack good hiking shoes and check the weather forecast, as conditions can change quickly, affecting the views. Additionally, if you are curious about local lodging, hotels near Alishan national park and in cities like Chiayi offer a range of options from budget stays to more luxurious hotels. Booking in advance during peak seasons is a good idea. Finally, if you want a taste of authentic Taiwanese flavors, don’t skip the Rou Jia Mo—a crispy bread sandwich filled with juicy pork. It’s a must-try and truly the best comfort food after a long day of exploring. I hope Singapore gets this soon because it’s absolutely delicious! Exploring Taiwan through hiking, historic sites, and night markets has been an unforgettable experience. Every day offers new places to visit and tastes to enjoy.
