Back to being a corporate slave which means Friday date nights 🫣 Also I’m late to the hype but always wanted to try Naomi Neo’s F&B venture Shinrai esp since I LOVE jap food 😛
Here’s what we tried 👇
🐟 Salmon Yukke - 4.5/5⭐️
Fresh & well-seasoned with free flow seaweed 🫶🏼 Great starter but portion alil smoll ><
Super generous with ingredients and the sauce was REALLY good. Fresh salmon, creamy mentaiko, and great balance overall 🙏🏻
🥚 Pitan Tofu - 5/5⭐️
Was not expecting this to be so good 🫣 I initially didn’t want to order thus but no regrets 🤪
Reminded me of chawanmushi — creamy, smooth, with just a hint of pitan flavour~
🍝 Truffle Pasta with Hotate
Noodles were good and truffle flavour was there, but the hotate was a bit skimpy and thin pls 😭
Overall, it was a pleasant experience and the food was mostly solid. Definitely a nice place for a casual date or chill meal — I’ll be back to try more dishes 👀✨
Let me know if you’ve tried Shin Rai and what I should order next 💬🍴
... Read moreIf you’re planning a visit to Shinrai at Telok Ayer, here are a few tips from my experience to help you get the most out of your meal. The Salmon Yukke is a wonderful starter—fresh and well-seasoned—but do be prepared for a slightly small portion, so consider pairing it with another dish to satisfy your appetite.
One dish you shouldn’t miss is the Salmon Mentaiko Maki. The generous filling and flavorful sauce create a perfect balance that Japanese food enthusiasts will truly appreciate. It pairs wonderfully with the Pitan Tofu, which was a pleasant surprise—creamy and silky with a delicate hint of pitan flavor, somewhat reminiscent of chawanmushi.
Although the Truffle Pasta with Hotate was tasty, I found the scallops a bit on the thin side. Hopefully, they’ll offer a larger portion next time. Shinrai offers a cozy ambiance perfect for casual date nights or relaxed outings with friends.
Don’t hesitate to try other items on the menu too; from my perspective, Shinrai delivers solid dishes with a fresh twist. If you have already tried it, I’d love to hear your recommendations for what to try next time. It’s definitely a spot I’ll revisit to explore more of their offerings and share more food adventures with you all!
