MTG Aetherdrift Info Part 2: The Planes. In this set, there will be 3 planes the race will take place across. The first and host of the race is Avishkar (formerly Kaladesh), who is currently under a new government. Secondly, we will go to Amonkhet, where we will see a mix of living and undead and maybe some new gods??! And lastly, we will go to Muraganda, a plane with wild environments and home to many different peoples, including oozes! Really neat to finally see Muraganda after all this time and to revisit two really popular older planes!! Who will pop up from these different planes?? Who do you hope to see? #mtg#aetherdrift#aetherdriftpreview#magic#magicthegathering #newset #planarrace

... Read moreI'm so hyped to dive deeper into the Aetherdrift set, especially after getting a glimpse at the planes involved in this epic race! It's not just about new cards; it's about the worlds we'll explore, and each one brings its own unique flavor and challenges.
First off, Avishkar, formerly Kaladesh. Wow, a whole new government? That immediately tells me this isn't the Kaladesh we remember from Chandra's story. The image displays a "futuristic city with domed buildings, glowing structures, and fireworks." Can you imagine piloting an airship or a custom-built speeder through that kind of environment? It sounds like the perfect setting for a high-stakes, technologically advanced race. I'm picturing intricate courses winding through towering, glowing structures, with fireworks exploding as racers cross checkpoints. The "host" role for Avishkar suggests it's the starting or central hub, possibly where all the incredible vehicles and artifacts are forged. I'm really curious if this new government has changed the plane's philosophy on innovation – maybe it’s even more competitive and gear-focused now. What kind of new artifact creatures or vehicle cards will this transformed Avishkar bring to the table? I can't wait to find out!
Then we're off to Amonkhet, and honestly, the thought of mixing living and undead racers amidst its ancient landscape gives me chills! The image features a "colossal, hooded statue holding a staff and scythe, set against pyramids," which perfectly captures that mysterious, foreboding atmosphere. Amonkhet was already a plane steeped in death and divine betrayal, so the idea of "new gods" emerging or old ones stirring is incredibly exciting and terrifying. How will the race navigate the treacherous deserts and the relics of a fallen civilization? Will the mummies and zombies be obstacles, or perhaps even participants? I'm picturing racers having to outmaneuver undead hordes or solve ancient puzzles to proceed. This leg of the race feels like it's going to be a test of survival and wit, not just speed. I'm hoping for some really unique creature types that blend life and death, or even some new "God" cards that reflect the plane's current state.
And finally, the long-awaited Muraganda! It’s been teased for ages, and now we get to visit this "wild and untamed plane." The image depicts a "winding path through organic structures and a large sun, reflecting its primeval environment." This sounds like a stark contrast to the other two planes. Forget high-tech gadgets or ancient traps; Muraganda is about raw, untamed nature. The "many different peoples, including oozes" part makes me think of a truly diverse, perhaps even chaotic, ecosystem. Imagine racing through dense, primeval jungles, navigating natural obstacles like massive vines, erupting geysers, or slippery, organic pathways. And those oozes! They’re probably not just sitting there, are they? I can envision them as dynamic hazards, dissolving parts of the track or even chasing racers. This leg of the Aetherdrift race will definitely be less about finesse and more about brute force and adaptability. I'm hoping for some awesome new dinosaur cards or other massive, primeval beasts that embody Muraganda's wild spirit.
This Aetherdrift race isn't just a simple competition; it's a multi-plane odyssey that promises distinct challenges on each world. It makes me wonder about the overarching narrative and what the ultimate prize of this race could be. Perhaps it's something that directly impacts the future of these planes, or even the Multiverse itself! I'm already speculating about who the lead characters will be, what kind of new mechanics the set will introduce that tie into these environments, and which legendary creatures or Planeswalkers might be involved in this grand event. The thought of revisiting these iconic planes while also finally exploring Muraganda is thrilling. What are you most excited to see or race through?
