Dropped my mare off with her new band and stallion today in hopes she gets bred and we get a baby next year! If she takes, her foal will be a quarter horse/andalusian cross with the sire shown standing alone in the video. Fingers crossed🤞we get a healthy baby in 11 months! 😁 #horse #horses #bandofhorses #montana #montanaliving #quarterhorse #runninghorse #lemon8creator #Lemon8 #fyp
Putting my mare in a new band for breeding was such a mix of emotions! It's not just about finding a great stallion; it's about making sure the environment is right for natural horse breeding. I spent so much time researching different stallions, especially focusing on those that would complement my mare's strengths and produce the best possible Andalusian Quarter Horse cross foal. I'm really looking for that perfect blend of the Andalusian's elegance and athleticism with the Quarter Horse's classic versatility and solid build. I envision a foal with that amazing 'cow sense' but also the grace to excel in various disciplines like dressage or reining. It's a careful balance, aiming for both beauty and brains! One of the things I truly cherish about horse breeding in Montana is the vast, unspoiled open spaces. Seeing the horses in Montana, living as naturally as possible, truly warms my heart. My mare joined a small, established band where she could settle in comfortably, and the stallion, a magnificent Quarter Horse, had a wonderful reputation for both his striking conformation and his gentle, trainable temperament. When you're dreaming of a future foal, temperament is absolutely paramount, not just for the mare but also for the sire's contribution to the offspring! I visited the ranch several times to observe the band dynamics and ensure it was a harmonious fit for my mare. It’s such an incredible process to witness natural horse breeding, watching them interact and form natural bonds before any actual breeding takes place. This natural approach helps ensure a less stressful experience for all involved. Now comes the longest part: the exciting but agonizing 11-month wait! It feels like an eternity, but every day brings us closer to potentially welcoming a new life. During this time, there's so much to learn about mare care during gestation. I'm already deep into reading up on nutritional needs – ensuring she gets all the right vitamins and minerals – appropriate exercise routines to keep her fit but not over-exerted, and what to expect as the months progress, leading up to the big day. I'm also looking forward to preparing the foaling stall, making sure it's safe, clean, and comfortable, and gathering all the essential supplies needed for a smooth and safe arrival. The thought of seeing a little Andalusian foal, a tiny, wobbly-legged version of what I've dreamed of, taking its first steps and galloping around the Montana pastures, is just the most incredibly exciting thing imaginable. Producing a young horse is a huge commitment, both in terms of time and resources, but it’s also one of the most profoundly rewarding experiences any horse owner can undertake. There's so much hope and anticipation tied into this entire journey, from the initial decision to breed, to the careful selection of a compatible stallion, and finally, the joyous arrival of a healthy Quarter Horse foal. Each step is filled with learning and wonder. I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed for a smooth and uneventful pregnancy, and a strong, spirited baby next year. Wish us luck on this incredible, once-in-a-lifetime adventure!
