knowing which classes to register for can be super difficult with pre requisites and certain classes being offered certain semesters.
I learned this hack a little to late, if I knew it sooner, I would be graduating this semester instead of next year😳
before you register for classes, make a flow chart showing any pre requisite classes. For many majors, there is a sequence of courses that build on each other. Here’s 2 examples:
1) for biology majors you must take bio 1, bio 2, bio 3 before you take any upper level courses such as genetics.
2) for chemistry you have to take algebra, intro to chem, biology 1, chem 1, chem 2, organic chem 1 and organic chem 2 before you take biochemistry
Writing out a flow chart helps give you a visual of what classes to take, especially with capstone / senior courses requiring multiple disciplines (ex. To take physical chemistry I have to finish a chemistry, physics, and math sequence)
early on if I knew I had to take intro to chem my first semester in college instead of just gen Ed’s like English and humanities, I would have been on track to graduate in 4 years! I also had no clue physics was a required course for most stem majors, including biology!
