Ima Restaurant Review- Michigan Eats

Ima Noodles specializes in Asian cuisine for meat, vegetarian, and vegan eaters. I have a mixed review about IMA. I’ve been a few times and it’s always hit or miss for me. Their prices for pho, ramen and udon are way overpriced for the amount of toppings you get.

However, I definitely think it’s worth going during their happy hour and getting their appetizers. My friend and I both bought a bunch of appetizers to split and we had a lil to take some home afterwards. We also got a mocktail which was really refreshing and delicious! If you haven’t been, I recommend that you try it out for yourself and let me know your thoughts! I always meet people who really really really love IMA and some who hate it.

I would say their price range is $$ in terms of comparing them to other ramen places. The happy hour menu items are $5. Pho/ramen/udon is $18+ PLUS you probably will be adding on toppings which cost.

... Read moreIt's true, Ima Noodles seems to be one of those places that people either absolutely adore or find a bit disappointing, and I completely understand why opinions are so divided! Having visited a few times myself, I've noticed a pattern that can really make or break your experience, especially if you're looking for value and satisfaction. Many, myself included, often find the $18+ price tag for a regular bowl of pho, ramen, or udon a bit steep, especially when you compare it to other authentic Asian eateries in the bustling Detroit area. While the quality of the ingredients is generally good, the portion sizes for the mains, particularly the amount of protein and vegetables included initially, can feel somewhat minimalist. The real kicker is that many of the essential toppings, which truly elevate a noodle dish and make it a complete meal, often come at an extra cost. This can quickly add up, turning an already pricey bowl into an even more expensive endeavor, leaving some diners feeling like they're not getting enough bang for their buck. However, this is precisely where Ima Noodles truly shines and redeems itself: their incredible happy hour! This is honestly the secret to having a fantastic and affordable experience here. My friends and I have made it a point to gather during happy hour, and it's a completely different vibe. Instead of focusing on the main noodle dishes, we dive headfirst into their appetizer menu. I can't recommend their pan-fried and steamed dumplings enough – they are absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked with a savory filling, and served with a tangy dipping sauce that just ties everything together. We often order several plates of these, along with other small bites from the happy hour menu, and it turns into a delightful feast of diverse flavors and textures. It’s a great way to sample a variety of their offerings without committing to a single expensive main course. And whatever you do, don't skip the mocktails! They are not only beautifully presented but also incredibly refreshing and thoughtfully crafted. They perfectly complement the savory appetizers, offering a burst of fresh flavors that cleanse the palate and enhance the overall dining experience. It feels like a gourmet treat without the alcoholic price tag, making the happy hour even more appealing. So, if you're planning a visit to Ima Noodles, especially if you're budget-conscious or just want to explore their menu without feeling overwhelmed by the main dish prices, here’s my biggest tip: go during happy hour. Focus on sharing a variety of appetizers and their unique mocktails. You'll likely leave feeling satisfied, having enjoyed some fantastic food, including those scrumptious dumplings and flavorful noodle bites, without the sticker shock. For those who still want to try the main pho, ramen, or udon dishes, my advice would be to go in with clear expectations. Be prepared for the price point and consider adding your favorite toppings from the get-go to create a truly customized and satisfying bowl. It's also worth noting that they do a great job catering to various dietary needs, offering excellent vegetarian and vegan options, which is a huge plus for many diners. Ultimately, dining out is a very personal experience, and what one person cherishes, another might find just average. But with these insider tips, you can navigate the menu more strategically and hopefully have a wonderfully enjoyable and value-packed experience at Ima Noodles, particularly by embracing their excellent happy hour offerings!
