Rolled up my long hair

... Read moreHey everyone! So, you saw my post about that rolled updo I've been doing? It's seriously become my favorite effortless style for my long hair, and I love how much volume it adds! I call it my 'lazy day chic' look, but it totally works for when I want to feel a bit more put-together too. If you're like me and constantly looking for easy ways to style your long hair, especially those days you just don't have a lot of time, then you're in the right place. I know the original post just showed the finished look, but I wanted to share how I usually achieve something similar, plus a few other tricks for anyone wondering how to get that 'big hair style' effect with long locks. My Go-To Rolled Updo (The 'What Should We Call It?' Style): This is surprisingly simple! Prep Your Hair: Start with dry hair; day-old hair often works best for updos as it has more grip. If your hair is too clean, a little dry shampoo at the roots can add texture. Gather Your Hair: Gently pull all your hair back as if you're making a low ponytail. Don't pull too tightly at the crown if you want volume. Start Rolling: Instead of tying it, start rolling the length of your hair upwards towards your head. You can either roll it from the ends up, or create a loose loop and start tucking/rolling the ends into the loop against your scalp. Secure It: Once you've rolled it up to your desired height (usually at the nape of my neck or slightly higher), use bobby pins to secure it firmly. I use quite a few to make sure it holds all day, especially with my thick hair! Tease for Volume (Optional): For that extra 'big hair style,' gently pull out a few strands around your face or at the crown before you secure it, and perhaps lightly tease the hair near the roll for added fullness. A spritz of flexible hold hairspray can help set it. Tips for Maximizing Volume with Long Hair: Root Lift: Before styling, apply a volumizing mousse or spray to your roots when your hair is damp, then blow-dry upside down. This creates a fantastic base for any updo. Strategic Teasing: Don't be afraid of a little backcombing! Use a fine-tooth comb to gently tease the underside of sections of hair, especially at the crown or around where you're creating your rolled style. Always smooth the top layer over for a polished finish. Texturizing Spray: A good texturizing spray is a game-changer! It adds grip and body, making it easier for pins to hold and for styles to look fuller. Loose vs. Tight: For a 'big hair style,' always aim for a looser, more natural feel. Over-tightening can flatten your hair. Other Effortless Updo Ideas for Long Hair: If you're looking for more "things to do with long hair" or "different hair styles": The Messy Bun: A classic for a reason! Just gather your hair into a high or low ponytail, twist it into a loose bun, and secure with an elastic and a few pins. Pull out some face-framing pieces for an undone look. The Half-Up Twist: Perfect for when you want your hair down but out of your face. Take two sections from either side of your temples, twist them back, and secure them with a clip or bobby pins at the back of your head. You can even combine them into a small bun or braid. Braided Crown: If you have a few extra minutes, two loose braids starting from your temples and meeting at the back can create a beautiful, elegant look. Managing long, thick hair can sometimes feel like a full-time job, but with a few simple techniques, you can achieve beautiful and voluminous styles without all the fuss. I hope these tips help you explore new ways to wear your gorgeous long hair!
