Waking up before sunrise to check in at 6 am was definitely a challenge, but having friends like Leo, who spontaneously decided we should do this 5K, made it worthwhile. There’s something special about starting your day with a community event that pushes your limits and inspires you to grow. One of the highlights was seeing Jackie, a dedicated powerlifter, chase after us during the race to cheer us on. Her encouragement not only lifted our spirits but also reminded me how important it is to have supportive friends in any fitness journey. It’s amazing how cheering from the sidelines can boost your confidence and motivation to keep going, especially during those toughest moments. The race started right around 7:15 am with 23°C weather—a bit warm but manageable. Finishing the race in 58 minutes and 6 seconds was a personal victory that showed me I truly could do things I once thought were hard. The sense of accomplishment was heightened by the fact that this event isn’t just about running; it’s about the memories made and unexpected milestones, like when I got on one knee to propose to Jackie. Moments like these turn a simple race into a life-changing experience. If you’re considering trying your first 5K, my advice is to embrace the challenge, find your cheer squad, and enjoy every step. The experience is about pushing yourself beyond what you thought possible, bonding with friends, and celebrating your achievements, no matter how small they may seem. Remember, every runner started somewhere, and this run was mine.
