Trying out my new spray gun: Part 1
This sun-bleached hope chest was ready for a fresh start, so I’m giving it a makeover with Olivewood by Chalky Chicks Paint. 🌿
I’m also trying out a new spray gun for the first time, and I just went for it! 😂 I’m loving how the Olivewood is going on and how it’s already transforming this piece.
But we’re not done yet! I still need to add the clear coat. Stay tuned for Part 2 and the final reveal! 🤎

Using a spray gun for the first time can feel intimidating, but it’s also incredibly rewarding when you see paint glide on evenly and smoothly. When I embarked on this project with the sun-bleached hope chest, choosing Olivewood by Chalky Chicks Paint was a perfect match for its calm and natural vibe. From my experience, spray painting furniture allows you to achieve a professional-looking finish that’s hard to replicate with brushes. One helpful tip I picked up is to keep the spray gun nozzle clean and to test the spray pattern on a piece of cardboard before applying it to your furniture. This simple practice helped me avoid overspray and ensured consistent coverage. Also, spraying in thin, even coats avoids drips and makes the paint dry faster. I found myself enjoying how quickly the soft Olivewood color transformed the chest, renewing its appearance and giving it a fresh, modern look while still preserving a vintage charm. I’m excited to add the clear coat next because it not only protects the paint but also enhances the color’s depth and durability. If you’re considering trying a spray gun, start with smaller projects like this hope chest so you can master the technique before moving on to larger pieces. Overall, this experience has definitely boosted my confidence in using spray equipment and inspired me to explore more Chalky Chicks Paint colors. Stay tuned for Part 2 where I’ll share the finishing touches and reveal the final outcome!
