What ruins my dorm? Besides it being a tad messy

For info I’m a 19 year old college student with an snake (yes he lives on campus if you want a post about it later I’ll make one) I’m from Minnesota which is why there’s a pile of coats yes I wear all of them almost every day.

I’m in a quad to myself and I’m not very social so I do most of my studying, eating, and I even work out in here. I found a love for interior design while planning out my dorm and I’ve learned I’m a maximalist. I’m thinking of adding a tall lamp at some point but I want to know what other people think.

First off I know there’s a ton of furniture in here. Sadly I cannot take it out without being fined. Second I know I have a lot of food in here. I do most of my eating in here. I don’t like the cafeteria. Third, please don’t say that the tank takes away from my room. The tank is not an option. Anyway let me know what you think.

... Read moreHey everyone! So, when you're planning out your dorm room, it’s super easy to focus all your energy on the main living area – the bed, desk, and storage. But what about that little bit of space right outside your door, or even just inside your dorm's entryway? That's your dorm hallway, and trust me, it can be a total game-changer for setting the vibe of your whole room! I know my own hallway space is tiny, but I've learned that even a small area can be transformed. For instance, I've seen some amazing ideas for making an entrance statement. Think about a fun, quirky doormat that reflects your personality – it’s the first thing people see! Or, if your dorm allows, a small, colorful runner rug can instantly make the space feel more inviting and less institutional. My current setup includes a super fun pink tinsel curtain at the end of my little hallway nook, which adds a pop of color and a bit of a party vibe right when you walk in. It’s definitely a conversation starter! Maximizing small hallway spaces is also key, especially in a dorm where every inch counts. My go-to tip? Vertical storage! A pink hanging shoe organizer on the back of your door is a lifesaver for keeping shoes off the floor and freeing up closet space. You can even use it for small toiletries, snacks, or accessories. I’ve also embraced wooden storage units in my hallway area, which are perfect for stashing away coats (especially coming from Minnesota, I have a few!), bags, or even extra supplies. They blend in nicely and keep clutter out of sight. Reflecting your style in the hallway can be really fun too. It’s like a mini preview of your room! I love adding personalized touches like a small whiteboard calendar to jot down reminders or fun quotes, or even a cute crescent moon shelf for a small plant or a beloved trinket. In my own space, I even tucked a comfy chair with a "THAT'S SO FETCH" pillow right into a corner of the hallway leading into my room. It’s not just for sitting; it adds a cozy, lived-in feel and makes my space feel more like home. Of course, always double-check your dorm's rules about what you can put in common hallways versus your personal entryway. Safety is super important, so make sure nothing blocks emergency exits or creates trip hazards. But within those guidelines, don't be afraid to get creative! Your dorm hallway is an extension of your personal sanctuary, and with a little thought, you can make it both practical and perfectly you. It’s amazing what a difference those small touches can make!

It’s quite cluttered and the room decor and the pink stuff don’t go together. You need one aesthetic or 2 that go together. Also maybe re arrange some of the furniture like the desk. Last you have quite a bit of shelf’s surrounding your entire room so make sure to leave some space between and leave some wall
