Homeschool Curriculum Haul 2025-2026
Entering into my second year of homeschool for my rising Kinder and 2nd grader. I found that like many other parents this is our favorite time of the year. We get to research and decide on curriculum for the upcoming school year!
After many many hours of research and looking at samples this is what I decided on. I’m so exited to see how my family does with these curriculums.
We will be trying mostly secular (we will do Bible study separately) family-style, charlotte-mason/ecclectic learning this year.
The first photo is from Beautiful feet, very literature heavy, showing early American history with brown and indigenous peoples viewpoints as well. (We may sprinkle in some a River of Voices).
The second photo is from the REAL science odyssey, super excited for this. Very experiment heavy, should be pretty open and go, with the exception of getting the materials.
The third photo and fourth photo, I have heard amazing things about Math with Confidence, looks super kid friendly, bright colored pictures, simple lessons.
The fourth and fifth picture is the LLATL or “Yellow Book” I have heard many good things, open and go, all in one and good for kids who are already strong readers, if he needs more spelling I’ll get the Evan Moore spelling. My son is going to do 3rd grade ela since he did 2nd this year. For the last picture it’s All About Reading prereader, I’m excited for this, it seems like a gentle approach, that will help my child get excited for reading.

Okay, homeschool parents, let's talk science! While I'm super excited about our entire curriculum lineup for 2025-2026, I wanted to dedicate a bit more time to one pick that I'm particularly thrilled about: the R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey Life Science Curriculum for Grades K-2. After countless hours of research, this one truly stood out, and I have a feeling it's going to be a game-changer for our family. My rising Kindergartener and 2nd grader are naturally curious little scientists, always asking "why?" and "how?" I've found that for kids this age, just reading from a textbook doesn't quite capture their imagination. They need to do science, not just learn about it. That's precisely where R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey shines. It's designed to be incredibly experiment-heavy, which means active learning is at the heart of almost every single lesson. I'm talking about hands-on activities that let them explore, observe, and discover for themselves, much like the vibrant images of nature you see on the curriculum's cover. One of the biggest drawcards for me is how "open and go" it promises to be. As a busy homeschool mom, anything that simplifies lesson prep is a huge win. From what I’ve seen in samples and reviews, the instructor's guide is comprehensive, providing clear, step-by-step instructions for each activity and experiment. This means less time planning and more time engaging with my kids. The lessons are structured logically, making it easy to pick up and teach, even if you’re not a science whiz yourself. My goal is to foster a love for discovery, and this curriculum seems perfectly poised to do just that without overwhelming me with excessive planning. Now, let's address the elephant in the room when it comes to experiment-heavy curricula: the materials. The original article mentioned "the exception of getting the materials," and it's true, this is probably the most time-consuming part. However, R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey does a great job of utilizing common household items whenever possible. For example, many experiments might call for things you already have in your pantry or craft bin, like vinegar, baking soda, food coloring, plastic cups, or cotton balls. For other items, I've found that planning ahead is key. I'll be reviewing the materials list for a week or even a month in advance, making a master shopping list for my grocery runs, or checking out the dollar store for inexpensive supplies like magnifiers, small containers, or clear trays for observations. Sometimes, a quick nature walk can provide unexpected treasures like leaves, soil samples, or even small insects for observation (humanely, of course!). My hope for using the R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey Life Science curriculum is to cultivate a deep appreciation for the natural world and scientific inquiry in my children. I want them to develop strong observation skills and understand that science is all around us. The K-2 Life Science focus is perfect for introducing fundamental concepts like plant growth, animal habitats, the human body, and ecosystems in an age-appropriate and exciting way. It truly aligns with our eclectic learning style, blending seamlessly with our literature-rich studies by offering a wonderful hands-on balance. I can't wait to see their eyes light up with each new discovery. If you’ve used R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey before, I’d love to hear your tips and experiences!
