Short Sand beach 🏖️ Oregon

Short Sand Beach

... Read moreOkay, fellow adventurers, let me tell you about my latest obsession on the OREGON Coast: Short Sand Beach! You absolutely HAVE to add this to your must-visit list. It's tucked away within Oswald West State Park, and honestly, the journey there is part of the magic. Unlike some of the more accessible beaches, getting to Short Sand requires a bit of a hike – about a mile through lush, old-growth forest. But trust me, every step is worth it. You're surrounded by towering trees, ferns, and the air smells incredible – a mix of damp earth and salty ocean. It feels like you're heading to a secret hideaway, and in a way, you are! The anticipation builds with every rustle of leaves underfoot. Once you emerge from the trees, you're greeted by this stunning, crescent-shaped cove. The first thing you'll probably notice is the iconic waterfall cascading right onto the sand – it's absolutely breathtaking and makes for some incredible photos. I remember my first time seeing it; it felt like stepping into a postcard. The beach itself is a perfect blend of soft, golden sand and intriguing tide pools, perfect for exploring when the tide is low. You can spend ages discovering tiny crabs, anemones, and other marine life. Short Sand Beach is also a famous surf spot, especially popular with beginners and longboarders, thanks to its consistent, mellow waves. The energy of the surfers catching waves adds a lively touch to the otherwise serene environment. Even if you're not a surfer, just watching them ride the waves adds to the vibrant atmosphere. I love just sitting on the sand, listening to the rhythmic roar of the ocean, and feeling the cool Pacific breeze. It's incredibly peaceful and grounding. Beyond surfing and waterfall gazing, there are so many ways to enjoy this spot. Pack a delicious picnic and spend the entire day soaking in the beauty. Explore the rocky outcroppings for more marine life, or simply take a leisurely stroll down the beach, letting the waves lap at your feet. The towering, forest-covered cliffs surrounding the coves give it a really dramatic, secluded feel, making you forget all about the outside world. It's a perfect place to clear your head and find some tranquility. A few important tips for your visit: Parking can fill up fast at Oswald West State Park, especially on sunny weekends or during peak season, so try to arrive early to snag a spot. Wear comfortable, sturdy shoes for the hike, and definitely bring layers – the OREGON Coast weather can change in an instant, from sunny to misty in minutes! Don't forget water and snacks, as there are no concessions right on the beach. And please, let's all do our part to keep this beautiful place pristine: practice Leave No Trace principles and pack out everything you pack in. Short Sand Beach truly embodies the wild, rugged, and majestic beauty of the OREGON Coast. It's a place where you can truly disconnect from the everyday hustle and bustle and reconnect with nature in its purest form. If you're looking for an unforgettable beach experience that feels a little off the beaten path and offers both adventure and serenity, this is absolutely it!
