LDR stories: I rather my partner not visit me..

*okay you guys might think what the absolute fk???? but HOLD ON LET ME EXPLAIN...

hi zesties!! as some of you might or might not know, im currently in an LDR and my bf js recently left to return back to germany so im gg thru that whole emo phase where all i do now is question how have i been surviving LDR...

For context, ive been in LDR for about 5 months now, and he recently came back to visit for a month! yay! Before this i also took a trip to germany to visit him for a wk and this is a huge thing i realised abt LDR: the hardest part is when yall are leaving each other.

During the actual LDR, the late night facetimes to accomodate to each others schedules, the waking up to catch each other right after work is fine for us, its comfortable, it feels normal. But the moment we are together in the same place at the same time, no longer behind screens, that whole routine of what we grew comfortable with gets disrupted, and we have to buildup a whole new "normal" for us.

The first instance i felt this was when i went over to germany during recess week. you'd thnk when i saw him we would go back to instantly being as physically close to each other, but for me i just felt so awkward. Being around him felt foreign and for the first few days it felt as if he was more of a close friends rather than my actual partner. Then came when it was time for me to fly back to Singapore.... I was absolutely devastated. For the first wk i could barely function, outside of work, i nvr went out at all. if i did it was to drink with my girls, going home to call my partner and cry to him afterwards.

And this happened when he first left for germany and recently, when he went back again. until now i dont really undertsand why or how is it always only the goodbyes that make it heard despite us already facing it so much, and honestly im going on my exchange soon to germany to live with him for abit, but im just thnking abt how painful the goodbye is prob gna be and im instantly filled with dread..

IDKKK, MAYBE I HAVE ISSUES ????? but please if anyone else has been in an LDR/was in an LDR id love to chat about this (or just share our exps being in LDR tgt)

I feel the LDR community is honestly so sweet and wholesome so id love to foster that kind of community below in the comments!! feel free to share your own experiences and worriess!!

love, asteria 🤍

... Read moreBeing in a long-distance relationship (LDR) is full of paradoxes. Like the author, many people find that the hardest moments aren’t the distance itself or the daily routines of calls and texts, but the transitions—especially the goodbyes after seeing each other in person. From personal experience, those goodbyes often trigger intense feelings of loss and emptiness, sometimes even more profound than the loneliness experienced while apart. This happens because when couples reunite, they create new memories and reconnect physically and emotionally, temporarily bridging the gap. However, once it’s time to part again, the reality of separation hits harder. It disrupts the freshly reestablished closeness and reminds us of the ongoing distance. The emotional adjustment from physical closeness back to being apart requires time and patience, which many underestimate. The awkwardness described about feeling like a close friend rather than a partner after meeting in person is also common. Being behind screens establishes a certain comfort zone where people can control interactions better. Meeting face-to-face breaks that illusion and requires couples to renegotiate their dynamics and affection levels, which takes vulnerability and effort. Another important point from the article is the dread about future goodbyes despite exciting plans, like moving to Germany for an exchange program. This mix of hope and anxiety is typical—it’s natural to look forward to a future together while simultaneously fearing the emotional pain of separation that may follow. If you’re in an LDR, consider these tips that helped me and others cope with the emotional waves: 1. Set realistic expectations about in-person visits and the adjustment period afterward. 2. Develop rituals to say goodbye that provide some sense of closure and comfort, like a special video message or a small gift. 3. Keep open communication with your partner about your feelings, no matter how hard it may be—this builds trust and understanding. 4. Build a support network of friends or online communities focused on LDR experiences. Sharing stories and advice can ease feelings of isolation. Remember, it’s okay to feel conflicted and emotional about the visits and departures. These feelings mean you care deeply, and with time, you can find ways to navigate this complex but rewarding relationship journey.

hello! my boyfriend is in london and we’ve been doing ldr for awhile too. i agree the airport goodbyes are always so tough :(( i cried so hard on the plane back a woman literally gave up her huge packet of tissues :”) i honestly don’t think i’ll get used to the goodbyes too. even now, i do miss him very much ☹️ what helped was that we always remind each other that this is just short term, and this is something we have to go through to build a stronger foundation for our future, first bitter then sweet. we’re both very open with each other and know each other’s long term plans! don’t forget yourself! i think ldr is a good time to build character and individuality, especially knowing that you have someone who loves and supports you from across the world <3 jiayous!

Not Germany but US. And while it’s great to have routines like calling before sleep/work and texting, sometimes it’s good to have routines outside of the rs. I’m not sure for other ppl but I find that when I let the space happen where we don’t call or text as often, when I do see him irl there’s just so much to catch up on and we’re never awkward. Ofc the silent ride to the airport and the actual goodbyes are very painful and difficult for everybody regardless of how secure you guys are or how much you’ve been thru. It’s cause for that little time you’ve build routines and rituals together that when you’re leaving it feels like you’re leaving that behind too. Plus the inevitable schedule change once you get back to your home country is nerve wrecking to deal with. But as long as both parties are openly communicating things will turn out alright!! 💕

As usual, I did my research before heading to Shanghai — though honestly, the three brands I’m about to mention are so prominent online that no research was really needed. I’d heard rave reviews about them and was more than ready to part with my money to finally own a piece of what everyone’s been

When a visit to the playground ended there
A 3-year-old went to the playground. She never made it home. Years ago, we conducted a funeral for a little girl who was simply doing what children do best — playing, laughing, and exploring. A fall at the playground seemed like a minor accident at first. It wasn’t. She was rushed to th
