Hi I’m Regan and I have gym anxiety😅
Does anyone else have this ? How do you deal with it? #lemon8diarychallenge #lemon8challenge #Lemon8 #gym #gymgirl #gymmotivation #anxiety #blackgirlcreator #blackgirlcontentcreator #workout
It's so validating to hear others struggle with gym anxiety! For the longest time, I thought I was the only one feeling this way. That feeling of dread before even stepping through the doors, or the overwhelming self-consciousness once you're inside – it’s a real thing, and it can seriously derail your fitness goals. I remember one particular day, I was on the elliptical, just trying to get my cardio in. My legs were moving, my black leggings and white sneakers were doing their job, and I was trying to focus on the rhythm, but all I could see in my mind's eye was that 'HELLO Gym Anxiety' text flashing in front of me. I glanced down at my purple water bottle, took a deep breath, and tried to remind myself why I was there. It's tough when you feel like every eye in the gym is on you, judging your form or your fitness level. So, how do we actually deal with this monster? Over time, I’ve picked up a few things that have really helped me. They might not work for everyone, but hey, sharing is caring, right? First off, timing is everything. If you can, try to go during off-peak hours. My gym is usually quieter mid-morning or late evening. Less people means less perceived scrutiny, and honestly, it just feels calmer. This was a game-changer for me. Secondly, plan your workout. Nothing fuels anxiety like walking into a gym with no idea what you're doing. I used to wander aimlessly between machines, feeling completely lost. Now, I have a clear plan on my phone – a specific set of exercises, reps, and even warm-up and cool-down routines. Knowing exactly what I need to do helps me focus on the task at hand rather than on everyone else. I often stick to machines I'm comfortable with, like the elliptical or stationary bikes, before venturing into new territory. Third, headphones are your best friend. Seriously, a good playlist can transform your gym experience. It creates a personal bubble, blocking out ambient noise and making it easier to get into a flow state. Plus, it sends a clear signal that you're focused and not looking to be disturbed, which can deter unsolicited advice or stares. Fourth, start small and celebrate every win. You don't have to go from zero to hero overnight. My goal used to be just getting through 20 minutes on the elliptical without feeling like I wanted to bolt. Now, it's about consistency. Even if it's just a quick session, showing up is a victory. Don't compare your Chapter 1 to someone else's Chapter 20. Everyone starts somewhere, and most people are too focused on their own workout to care about yours. Finally, remember your 'why'. Why are you at the gym? Is it for health, strength, stress relief, energy? When that wave of anxiety washes over you, come back to your core motivation. For me, it’s about feeling stronger and healthier, and that's a powerful reminder to push through the discomfort. And if all else fails, a quick motivational meme search after my workout always makes me feel better knowing I'm not alone! It's a journey, not a destination. Some days are easier than others, but slowly, that intense 'HELLO Gym Anxiety' feeling starts to fade, replaced by a sense of accomplishment. Keep showing up, keep trying, and remember, you're doing great!

I have a post on my page just like this. It’s crazy. I actually just kept showing up and it got easier 😭
