Does your preteen/teen not like spending time with you anymore either?! 😭

We’re navigating the preteen/teenage years. Which means less time with me, and wanting more space to himself. I take what I can get, and sometimes that means a forced shopping trip with lunch/dinner 😅

I’ve found that while my preteen seeks more space and independence, creating moments to connect—no matter how small—can keep our relationship strong. Sometimes, it’s about accepting their need for distance but also gently encouraging shared activities, like a quick shopping trip or grabbing a meal together. These moments become invaluable opportunities to talk and understand each other. From my experience, letting go of expectations for constant interaction and embracing quality over quantity is key. It helps to ask open-ended questions about their interests without pressing too hard, letting them lead the conversation when they’re ready. I also try to celebrate their growing autonomy by showing respect for their choices, which builds trust and makes them more willing to spend time together voluntarily. Another tip is to find common ground activities that feel less like a chore and more like fun—for example, watching a favorite show or playing a video game together. These relaxed environments can encourage connection without pressure. Remember, it’s natural for preteens and teens to seek more privacy, but your consistent presence lets them know you’re there when they want to share. In short, balancing respect for their growing independence with opportunities for bonding helps make these years less about losing connection and more about evolving your relationship. By cherishing small, authentic moments—like a "forced" shopping trip that turns into laughter over lunch—you’re building a foundation for continued closeness as they mature.

Sis my son would rather be on his streaming platform than spend time with me lol he is 13teen and I listened to my late mom who passed away this march she used to tell me "get all the memories you can hug him more than you can why he is little because when he grows up to preteen age and teenagers heck he not going to be under you are want to be your baby boy anymore and it's crazy trying to get boys to spend time with you it'll always be an excuse with them" lol my mama was right lol 😆 haaaa my son is a home body like i am but I get out and I can never get him to go no where 😂
