this is the only #fitcheck i’ve ever done for the Internet, so it’s particularly fitting that it’s an educational one! don’t get got by #tickseason when you’re foraging!

Foraging during tick season requires not just the right knowledge but also the perfect attire to protect yourself comfortably while enjoying nature. From my own experiences, choosing a merino wool and silk blend for base layers is a game-changer—it keeps you warm, dry, and itch-free without overheating. Additionally, pairing these leggings with hand-knitted socks adds both comfort and warmth, especially on longer walks in damp areas. Thrifting has been a rewarding way for me to find unique outdoor gear, including shoes in larger sizes, which are often difficult to buy new without spending a lot. It’s surprising how many quality items one can find, making sustainability and affordability come together. When it comes to tick season, aside from wearing long layers to minimize skin exposure, I recommend using tick repellents containing DEET or natural alternatives like essential oil blends. Checking yourself for ticks frequently, especially after walking through brushy or grassy areas, is vital. Wearing lighter colored clothing helps easily spot ticks too. Lastly, packing a tick removal kit and familiarizing yourself with proper removal techniques before heading out into the woods can save a lot of trouble. This approach not only ensures safety but makes your outdoor foraging adventures more enjoyable and worry-free.
