How To Get Back To Yourself!

Atlanta
5/21 Edited to

... Read moreRecovering from a narcissistic relationship is a deeply personal and challenging journey, but it is also one filled with opportunities for profound growth and self-discovery. One of the most important steps is to fully acknowledge and admit the truth about the abuse you experienced. This honest recognition is the foundation for healing because you cannot heal what you do not acknowledge. Cutting off all contact with the abuser is crucial. This means no calls, texts, or social media interactions—distance becomes your protection and your power. I found that blocking social media profiles and avoiding places where I might run into the person helped preserve my peace and allowed me to focus on myself. As you navigate this healing, be gentle with yourself. Abuse is never your fault, and self-blame can hinder your progress. Remind yourself daily affirmations like "I am enough," "I am worthy," and "I am not defined by what happened to me." These affirmations rebuild your self-worth and create a positive inner dialogue. Journaling was an invaluable tool for me to express my feelings and track my healing over time. Prayer, therapy, or simply talking with trusted friends can also provide emotional relief and clarity. Getting your emotions out helps you grow beyond the pain instead of being stuck in it. Reconnecting with your true self means rediscovering the things that bring you joy and peace. Whether it's a hobby you abandoned or new interests you're curious about, investing time in these helps restore your identity. Remember to set strong boundaries with others—not everyone deserves access to your life or energy. Patience is essential. Healing is not a race, and taking it one day at a time allows you to truly integrate your growth. In my experience, each small step forward built a stronger, more resilient version of myself. Choosing yourself and your well-being is the best decision you can make after such a traumatic experience. Ultimately, remember: losing yourself trying to hold on to them is common, but now it’s time to find and cherish who you truly are.
