Otaru is great for a 2D1N day trip itinerary if you’re coming from Sapporo!
Located just 30–45 minutes from Sapporo, known for its romantic, nostalgia-filled atmosphere, iconic canal, and exceptional seafood. It is perfect for a quick, 1/2 to 2/3 day trip, offering a blend of historic charm, artistic glasswork, and famous local sweets.

Food: Not that many restaurants food options in my opinion as many restaurant closes at 6pm
During my stay near the Otaru Canal, I appreciated how accessible everything was, especially being just a 2-minute walk to the picturesque canal and a short drive to the Otaru Ropeway. The location really enhanced the experience for me, making it easy to explore without worrying about transportation. While the area boasts charming historic vibes and beautiful art stores, I did notice that dining options were somewhat limited, particularly after 6 pm when many restaurants close. If you plan to stay overnight, it’s good to have some meals in mind early or grab snacks from the Family Mart conveniently located just across the building. The accommodation price of around $150 per night felt reasonable for the quality and location, especially for a short 1- or 2-day stay. I found it to be a great base to explore Otaru’s unique blend of nostalgia and modern attractions. I highly recommend this stay for travelers looking to maximize a short visit to this charming town.
