Reading tips?

Hey everyone! I’m new to reading on my iPad and was looking for some advice.

I’ve been reading a pdf download on the Apple Books app which has been very easy and convenient, however I’m struggling with the font sizes. How are you guys adjusting these things? Is it even possible? Can’t zoom in either 😔

How do you guys read on your iPads??

The native Apple Books app supports reading PDFs but does not allow direct font size adjustments because PDFs are fixed-layout documents. This means the text size cannot be dynamically changed like reflowable eBooks (ePub format). However, here are several effective strategies to enhance your reading comfort on an iPad: 1. Use Pinch-to-Zoom Gesture: Although you mentioned difficulty with zooming, typically Apple Books allows a pinch gesture to zoom in and out of PDF pages. If pinch zoom is disabled or not responding, try restarting the app or your device. Also, for PDFs consisting of scanned images, zooming works best. 2. Open PDF in Reflowable Format Apps: Consider opening PDFs in apps that provide reflowable text or adjustable font options. Apps like Adobe Acrobat Reader, Foxit PDF Reader, or PDF Expert often allow you to manipulate the view, zoom, or convert PDFs to formats more suitable for adjusting fonts. 3. Convert PDF to ePub or Other Formats: Various online converters or apps can change PDF files into ePub or other eBook formats that support font resizing, night modes, and customizable reading settings. 4. Explore Dedicated Reading Apps: Apps specialized for PDF reading and annotations, such as GoodReader or LiquidText, provide expansive zoom and text customization options to cater to different needs. 5. Use iOS Accessibility Features: iPads have built-in accessibility features such as Magnifier, Zoom, and Display Accommodations that can improve readability. Enabling these can help compensate for fixed font sizes in PDFs. 6. Adjust Screen Brightness and Color Filters: Eye strain can be reduced by tuning brightness or enabling Night Shift to reduce blue light, making prolonged reading more comfortable. Experiment with these tips to find the optimal reading setup that suits your preferences. Sharing your experience or favorite apps with communities using hashtags like #readinghacks, #readingapps, and #ipadreading can be helpful for discovering new solutions. By combining app capabilities and iPad accessibility tools, you can achieve a smoother and more personalized PDF reading experience on your device.
