🌀 Thai Script: Innovation, Not Imitation

📜 Thai alphabet: not plagiarism, but evolution from common roots.

Thai has roots from the Palwa script of South India, as well as the Khom script - but Thailand developed "Thai pattern" with its own innovation.

Thai script and Khmer script both trace back to the Pallava script of South India. However, Thailand developed "Lai Sue Thai" with distinct innovations.

1️⃣ Ancient inscriptions in Myanmar are written in Khom script, but "read in Thai."

Ancient inscriptions in Burma use Khmer script - yet read in Thai, proving early Thai usage of Khom script.

2️⃣ The invention of "tonal" and dividing consonants into 3 levels.

The Thai script introduces tone marks and consonant classes (high-mid-low) - a breakthrough among Indic scripts.

3️⃣ Many Thai letters do not appear in the Khmer alphabet, such as the rule of law.

Unique Thai letters (e.g.,, et.) show adaptation to Thai phonology, not mere borrowing.

🌍 "prom" does not mean one nation.

In the past, "Khom" referred to a group of Hindu people, such as Khom Thai, Khom Lao, Khom Maer, etc.

The term "Khom" referred to Hinduized Southeast Asian peoples across Suvarnabhumi - Thai, Lao, Khmer were once Khom cousins.

From Sukhothai to Ratconin, Thailand developed the alphabet with its own pronunciation and cultural context in mind.

From Sukhothai to Rattanakosin, Thai script evolved to match native phonetics and cultural contexts - distinct from Khmer.
