Some time last year we all magically decided to do a @spartan race … and At this point I was IN PAIN, my body was like WTF are you doing? But I pushed through and at the end surprised myself with all that I AM capable of 🥹 #spartanrace #sanjosecalifornia
Joining a Spartan Race with little to no training was definitely a leap out of my comfort zone, but it turned out to be one of the most rewarding challenges I've faced. When I signed up for the 10k Spartan Race, I underestimated the physical and mental demands of the course. Obstacles like wall climbs, mud crawls, and heavy carries pushed my body to limits it hadn't experienced before. At one point, the pain was overwhelming — my muscles screamed, and I wondered if I could finish. But what kept me going was a mix of determination, adrenaline, and encouragement from fellow racers. One valuable lesson I learned is that Spartan Races are as much about mindset as they are about physical strength. Training beforehand helps, but on race day, the ability to push through discomfort and focus on small victories matters more. I found breaking the course into sections and celebrating each completed obstacle gave me mental boosts. Also, preparation like hydration and nutrition in the days leading up made a difference. Although I didn’t train much, staying well-fed and hydrated helped me steady my energy. If you’re thinking about trying a Spartan Race or any obstacle course challenge, my advice is to listen to your body but don’t be afraid to push past perceived limits. The sense of accomplishment and the camaraderie make the experience unforgettable. Plus, it’s a great way to discover what your body and mind can really do when tested. Reflecting on that day in San Jose, I’m proud of overcoming pain and finishing strong. It showed me that sometimes, the biggest barriers are mental, and with perseverance, you can surprise yourself with what you're capable of.
