How often do we let a quick comment or perceived slight instantly ruffle our feathers? I know I'm guilty of it! Instead, it's about exercising prudence – that quiet strength to process, to discern, and sometimes, to simply let go. I've found that when I consciously choose to 'ignore an insult,' I often realize the comment wasn't worth my energy in the first place, or perhaps it came from a place of the other person's own pain. Then there's Proverbs 12:18: 'There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.' This verse is a powerful reminder of the immense impact our words carry. Think about it – words can build up or tear down, encourage or deeply wound. I've definitely had moments where I've spoken out of anger or frustration, and later regretted the 'sword thrusts' my words inflicted. Cultivating prudence wisdom means taking a beat before speaking. It’s asking ourselves, 'Are these words going to bring healing or harm?' It’s choosing to speak with kindness, empathy, and genuine respect, even when it's difficult. This doesn't mean being silent when we need to speak up, but rather speaking wisely, with the intent to resolve and uplift, rather than to attack or diminish. Applying these principles of prudence wisdom from Proverbs 12:16 and Proverbs 12:18 has been a journey. It’s about becoming more mindful of our internal responses and our external expressions. In a world that often encourages immediate, aggressive reactions, choosing prudence is a form of genuine boldness. It's about embodying the kind of wisdom that transforms not just our own lives, but also the lives of those around us, fostering environments of understanding and love.
