The Roots of Education with the Philosophy of Michael Meade

The word "Education," or education in Thai, has two Latin roots with different meanings: "Educare" and "Educator."

Educare means practicing, molding, or imbuing knowledge to a learner. It is like pouring knowledge into an empty container. It is a teacher-centered education and sets the standard of knowledge that learners should receive.

Educere means bringing out, or bringing out, the potential that exists within a student. It is a study that sees each learner as having a unique ability and way of thinking.

Considering Meade's statement that "deep education means' bringing out 'what is being tried to happen from within," it can be seen that it is clearly consistent with the meaning of "Educere." Meade believes that true education is not just cramming information or knowledge to learners, but a process that allows learners to discover their own unique identities, abilities and perspectives.

Meade also goes on to say that "the real teacher's job is to help awaken inner pupils who have their own way and have a unique way of looking at the world," which reflects the teacher's role as a helper, facilitator, rather than a mere importer of knowledge; a good teacher, according to this concept, is therefore one who understands that each learner has "inner pupils" or different learning potential and methods.

This concept challenges traditional education systems that often emphasize memorization and examinations based on the same standards. Instead, education based on the meaning of "Educere" and based on the Meade concept should be a process that allows learners to discover and develop their true identity, which will lead to creativity and meaningful participation in society.

Education in this sense is therefore not simply to prepare people to pursue a career or to pass an exam, but to incubate a complete human being; who is aware of their own potential and able to bring that talent into use to create the good in the world.
