🪰 Beauty Caused by Context: When Flies Change Meaning
In the eyes of humans, flies are often stigmatized as symbols of filth, annoyance, or even repulsion, especially when they swarm food waste or sewage; the image is not only unattractive, but automatically evokes a sense of desire to avoid it.
But when the same fly perched on a bright green leaf in natural light, it turned out to be an object of interest, an image that had previously been overlooked looking looking lively, with fascinating details - reflective clear wings, a metallic red head, a trunk that looked like it was intricately designed, its meaning instantly changed, not because the fly changed, but because the context changed.
Environmental context therefore has a profound influence on human perception and interpretation. We do not see things objectively, if but through the frame of mind, expectations, and emotions shaped by the circumstances around us. Kitchen flies are dirt, but garden flies are the elements of nature.
The lesson from this picture is that our perception is often not a matter of what is, but of what we place around changing scenes, changing context, can completely change the meaning of a thing - and sometimes reveal a beauty we never thought we'd look for 🌿.
