SATC: Secret Single Behavior

So a little about me… I’m a big Sex and the City Girl!! I watch the show every year and sometimes multiple times a year. I’m currently on a rewatch watching S4E13 “The Good Fight” in which Carrie and Aiden have moved in together and are getting on each others nerves. At Brunch Carrie complains to the ladies how she misses being able to come home to an empty apartment and do all of the things woman can’t do in front of men. The Secret Single Behavior.

As a chronically single girl… (Lord, it’s me again…) I have SEVERAL secret single behaviors. Comically so.. ranging from silly and possibly cute to down right weird and embarrassing.

One of the not so embarrassing (but could be mistaken as sad by the wrong critic) SSB’s is that I’ll put on my cutest pairs of heels and drape myself on the couch and sip wine or sip wine and cook in them.

It doesn’t make sense BUT I love doing it.

And also for anyone curious… Carrie is my girl! Flaws and all! But I self identify as a Charlotte. #sexandthecity #blackgirllemon8 #fyp #secretsinglebehavior #blacklemon8creator

... Read moreI totally get what you mean about missing that empty apartment vibe, where you can truly just *be*. It's where the magic of "Secret Single Behavior" (SSB) really happens, isn't it? My own little rituals, like wearing my cute shoes around the house even when I'm in my pajamas, are just a sliver of the unapologetic freedom that comes with single life. But let's be real, SSBs are so much more than quirky habits. They're mini acts of self-care, little rebellion moments that remind you who you are when no one's watching. Maybe for you, it's having a full-blown dance party in your living room to your loudest playlist, or perhaps it's eating ice cream straight from the tub at 2 AM without a shred of guilt. It could be binging an entire season of your favorite show in one go, or engaging in deep, philosophical conversations with your pet because, let's face it, they're excellent listeners. These behaviors, often hidden away, are vital for our well-being. They're moments of pure, unadulterated self-expression that we sometimes suppress in relationships, especially when they're not healthy. And this brings us to a really important point: the profound joy and peace that comes from recognizing that it's infinitely better to be single and truly content than to be entangled in a toxic relationship. When you're in an unhealthy partnership, those precious SSBs often get sidelined. You might find yourself constantly adjusting, compromising, or even hiding parts of yourself to avoid conflict or judgment. That's a heavy price to pay. Being single, especially when you embrace it, offers an incredible opportunity for self-discovery and growth. It's a chance to cultivate a life that genuinely revolves around your happiness and your rhythm. You get to decide what your home feels like, what you watch, what you eat, and how you spend your time, without having to negotiate or justify. The freedom to simply be can be incredibly empowering. It allows you to build a strong foundation of self-love and independence, which, ironically, makes you a more complete and discerning person if and when you do decide to enter another relationship. So, I encourage you to lean into your own unique "Secret Single Behaviors." What are those little things you do that bring you disproportionate joy when you're alone? Embrace them, celebrate them, and recognize them as powerful affirmations of your self-worth. They're not just silly habits; they're the building blocks of a truly fulfilling single life, a life where you are the main character, and your happiness isn't dependent on anyone else. It's a beautiful, liberating journey, and I’m right there with you, enjoying every quirky, comfortable, and utterly authentic moment of it.
