People who hurt their former partners EARLY are…

2024/9/2 Edited to

... Read moreI've personally encountered what I, and many others, refer to as 'hurtees' in various relationships, and it's a dynamic that leaves a lasting impression. These aren't necessarily 'CHEATAS AND LIEONS' in the malicious sense, but individuals so profoundly terrified of being hurt themselves that they resort to a preemptive strike. They’ll pull away, create distance, or even end a relationship just as it's getting serious, all to avoid the potential pain of perceived future rejection or heartbreak. It’s like they're trying to win a race against their own vulnerability. Why do people become 'hurtees'? Often, it stems from deeply rooted past experiences – perhaps a significant betrayal, abandonment, or emotional trauma. This creates a protective mechanism, a subconscious belief that the only way to avoid pain is to be the one who inflicts it first, or at least ends things before they can be ended. They might tell you things like, 'It's not you, it's me,' or 'I just want to do my own thing,' or even express a sudden epiphany like, 'I was really thinking that we're not going to work out.' These lines, as innocent as they may sound, are often a shield, preventing any real discussion or a partner's chance to react, adjust, or understand. The person on the receiving end 'doesn’t have no time to react or anything.' They are left confused, questioning their worth, and with their own 'hurt feelings in a relationship.' Recognizing this pattern, whether in a partner or yourself, is the first step towards healing. If you're dating someone who consistently pulls away when things deepen, who finds reasons to create conflict when intimacy grows, or who suddenly declares an end to things without tangible cause, you might be dealing with a 'hurtee.' They might unconsciously sabotage the relationship to confirm their fear: 'See? I knew it wouldn't work out, so I ended it first.' It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy born out of fear, not genuine incompatibility. The ironic twist is that while 'hurtees' believe they are protecting themselves, they often prevent themselves from experiencing the very thing they crave: genuine, deep connection. They leave a trail of hurt feelings, not only in others but also within themselves, as they never truly allow themselves to be loved unconditionally. And often, as the OCR highlights, 'When that person actually gets someone and they show those changes that you try to hurt them with, you help them elevate.' The person who was hurt by the 'hurtee' often learns and grows, becoming stronger and finding a partner capable of a healthy relationship, while the 'hurtee' remains stuck in their cycle of fear. If you find yourself in a relationship with a 'hurtee,' it's crucial to protect your emotional well-being. Understand that their actions are usually not a reflection of your worth, but rather their own internal struggles. Setting boundaries and recognizing that you cannot 'fix' someone who isn't ready to face their fears is vital. For those who identify with being a 'hurtee,' self-reflection and seeking support can be transformative. Understanding the roots of this fear, perhaps through therapy or self-help resources, can help dismantle these protective walls and open the door to healthier, more fulfilling relationships. Breaking free from this cycle means giving someone a real chance, something the 'hurtee' often denies both themselves and their partner by being 'already out' before the relationship truly begins.
