Late Night Makeup sesh!

Good Evening my lovelies. I hope all is well. I wanted to practice some makeup tonight and this is the look I came up with.

Disclaimer: I tend to use filters due to my camera on my phone that doesn’t capture the best lighting when indoors. So it really takes away some color from my face. I do have a canon camera that was gifted to me but I am still learning how to use it since I’ve never used a canon before or any professional like camera.

If you have any helpful tips on the camera both on my phone and canon, I will gladly listen. 😅

It's that uninterrupted time to experiment, practice new techniques, and really get to know your face. For many of us, it's not just about getting ready for an event; it's a creative outlet, a moment of self-care, and a chance to refine our skills. Personally, I find these sessions invaluable for building confidence with different products and looks. When it comes to Black girl makeup, there's often an extra layer of consideration. Finding the perfect foundation match is crucial, and it’s not just about one shade, but often a combination to get that seamless blend. Beyond foundation, mastering bronzer placement to add warmth and dimension without looking muddy is key. I've learned that a good primer is essential for a smooth canvas, especially when you're aiming for a flawless finish that lasts. Then come the fun details: crafting defined brows that frame the face beautifully, executing a sharp winged eyeliner, and choosing between a classic nude or a vibrant glossy lip to complete the look. Every makeup sesh is an opportunity to perfect these elements, making them uniquely yours. Now, capturing that perfect makeup look – that’s a whole different challenge, especially when relying on phone cameras indoors. I've been there, thinking my makeup looks stunning in person, only for my phone to wash out the colors or create harsh shadows. Here are some tips I've picked up or wished I knew earlier for better makeup photography: Lighting is Everything: Natural light is always best, so if you're doing a late night sesh, consider moving near a window during the day to snap your finished look. If natural light isn't an option, invest in a ring light or a softbox. Even a well-placed floor lamp with a white sheet draped over it can create softer, more even illumination than direct overhead lights. Avoid harsh, yellow-toned lights as they distort colors. Clean Your Lens: This sounds obvious, but a smudged phone camera lens can dramatically reduce photo quality, making your beautiful bronzer and foundation look dull. Composition & Angles: Experiment with different angles. Sometimes a slightly elevated shot or a profile shot can highlight your winged eyeliner or glossy lips better. Use your phone's grid lines to center your face or create a balanced composition. Minimize Filters (Initially): While a soft filter can enhance, relying too heavily on them can obscure the details of your makeup work. Try to get the best shot possible with minimal editing first, then add subtle enhancements if needed. This also helps you see what your phone camera is capable of. For DSLR Beginners (like with a Canon): Don't be intimidated! Start by understanding the basics. Try shooting in Aperture Priority mode (Av or A on your dial) to control background blur – a lower f-number (like f/2.8 or f/4) will give you a nice, soft background, making your makeup pop. Keep your ISO as low as possible to avoid grainy photos, only increasing it if absolutely necessary in low light. White balance settings are crucial for accurate skin tones; try presets like 'Daylight' or 'Cloudy' and adjust if your skin looks too warm or cool. Practice in manual mode gradually, focusing on one setting at a time. Every makeup session, whether it's for an event or just for fun, is a learning experience. And capturing those moments can be just as rewarding! Don't be afraid to keep practicing with both your makeup and your camera; both skills improve with time and dedication.
