📚 A Quick Author Note 📚

As an indie author, I’ve already started getting messages offering things like “5–10 reviews a day.” While it might sound tempting, those services are risky — they can actually get your book flagged or removed on Amazon and Goodreads. 🚫

But here’s the truth: authentic reviews from real readers mean everything.

The photo below is from a review left on Love Was Never the Problem, and it brought me to tears. But then after she left it, it felt so disingenuous because she tried to pitch a sale.

I shut her down.

🖤 This is why I write — Real people. Real connection. Real words. No False reviews.

So if you’ve read my book (or plan to!), the absolute best way to support me is by leaving an honest review. It helps new readers discover my story in a genuine way, and it means more to me than any number ever could.

Thank you for being here, for reading, and for sharing your voices with me. Together we’re proving that authenticity > shortcuts, every time.

— T J Spence ✍️

... Read moreIndie authors often face challenges promoting their work in a crowded marketplace. While paid review services may seem like a shortcut to gaining visibility, they pose significant risks, including book removal or flagging on major platforms like Amazon and Goodreads. Genuine, honest reviews from real readers remain the most valuable form of support for independent authors. They not only build credibility but also help attract sincere readers who appreciate authentic storytelling. The memoir "Love Was Never the Problem" by T J Spence delivers a powerful and raw narrative about grief and childhood trauma, described as deeply human and unflinching. Reviews highlighted in the article emphasize the book’s poetic voice and honest portrayal of difficult family dynamics and healing. Such organic praise resonates more with potential readers than any artificial boost. For indie authors, encouraging readers to leave honest reviews fosters real connections and trust within their community. These authentic voices enable new readers to discover stories that truly move them, contributing to the author’s long-term success. Authors rejecting inauthentic promotions prioritize integrity and meaningful reader relationships over rapid but fragile popularity. Readers can support indie authors by sharing their genuine opinions, which not only assist in discovery algorithms but also enrich the literary landscape with diverse, heartfelt stories. This approach proves that authenticity in reviews and author-reader interaction is the foundation for sustainable success rather than shortcuts. By understanding the importance of honest reviews and the impact of personal, heartfelt narratives like "Love Was Never the Problem," both authors and readers contribute to a thriving ecosystem that values truth, resilience, and shared human experiences.
