Trying new things in 2026
Don't be afraid to try new things. Venturing out can be hard, especially when trying new things. I tend to be super hyped about plans I make but then when it comes to it I get WAY nervous and anxious so much so sometimes I cancel plans but this time it was different.
Sat, Jan 03, 2026- A coworker invited me to play a game called Magic the Gathering and I had never played before.
I get really nervous about meeting new people and trying new things but she made it so easy to follow along. I ended up having a good time. ❤️
Hope this year is full of trying new things ✨️
Trying new things can be intimidating, especially when anxiety and nervousness come into play. I’ve found from personal experience that taking small steps outside my comfort zone—like joining a new game or social activity—can have surprisingly positive effects on my mental health. For example, when I first played Magic the Gathering, a game I had never tried, I was really anxious about not understanding the rules or fitting in. However, having a supportive coworker made all the difference. They explained the basics in a simple way and made me feel welcomed, which helped me relax and enjoy the game. Magic the Gathering isn’t just a card game; it’s a community and a way to connect with people who share different interests. This interaction helped reduce my social anxiety and boosted my confidence. As someone with ADHD, trying new activities can also improve focus and provide a healthy distraction from stress. Engaging in strategic games like this can stimulate the brain in new ways. From this experience, I encourage others to embrace the challenge of new experiences. Whether it’s learning a new hobby, meeting new people, or just stepping outside your routine, the benefits extend beyond fun. They help in healing, growth, and building resilience. This year, I’m committed to making 2026 a year full of discovery and healing, starting with small but meaningful first steps. Remember, the key is to be patient with yourself and find people who support and guide you along the way.
