Cheese and lesbians could you ask for a better pairing?
Thank you @Marin French Cheese Co. @Capriole Urban Stead Cheese, Maker to Monger, @Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese @firehookcrackers @RusticBakery and Janet’s Finest for sending me all of your amazing products!
Hosting a cheese tasting event for a community as vibrant and diverse as queer women and non-binary individuals was both exciting and rewarding. As a professional cheesemonger, I wanted to create an inclusive, fun space where everyone could enjoy quality cheese, try new flavors, and connect. Preparing over 30 pounds of cheese from amazing makers like Marin French Cheese Co., Capriole, Urban Stead Cheese, Maker to Monger, and Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese took careful planning. I worked closely with Janet’s Finest Compotes and Rustic Bakery to add perfect pairings like compotes, crackers, and crisps that complemented the cheese boards. One of the biggest lessons was the importance of preparation. I prepped almost everything off-site and brought it ready to display, which meant the event setup was smooth and efficient. We even had to upgrade tables to accommodate the sheer amount of cheese and accompaniments. The event was hosted in collaboration with WXMX Cleveland, an organization that creates welcoming spaces for queer women, non-binary folks, and allies. This partnership ensured a safe environment where everyone felt comfortable being themselves. Meeting my followers in person was a highlight. Many shared photos of their own cheese boards, inspired by the event, and it was wonderful to see how the community embraced the experience. Cheese isn’t just a food here; it's a way to bring people together, celebrate diversity, and share joy. This event showed how delicious artisan cheese paired with an inclusive environment can create memorable moments for everyone involved. If you’re considering hosting a similar event, focus on inclusive marketing, partner with supportive organizations, and curate a selection of cheeses and pairings that suit a variety of tastes. Most importantly, ensure the atmosphere fosters connection and acceptance. Cheese lovers and community-building go hand in hand, and this event was a testament to that powerful combination.
