... Read moreChicken fried steak is a beloved Southern comfort dish that combines crispy fried cube steaks with a rich, creamy pepper gravy. One of the great joys of making this dish at home is customizing the seasoning to your taste. Using a seasoned salt blend like Chef Bae Seasoned Salt adds a wonderful depth of flavor to both the steak and the gravy, enhancing the overall experience. When preparing the chicken fried steak, make sure your oil is hot enough to achieve a golden, crispy crust without absorbing too much oil. Medium-high heat is ideal, but keeping an eye on the temperature will help you avoid burning. Double dredging the steaks in the seasoned flour and egg mixture creates that signature crunchy coating that stays juicy inside. Pairing the steak with mashed potatoes and peas rounds out the meal splendidly. Adding heavy cream and butter to the mashed potatoes gives them that smooth, creamy texture that complements the peppery gravy beautifully. For the peas, cooking them with butter and a pinch of the same seasoned salt is a simple but effective way to elevate their flavor. Buttermilk biscuits are a fantastic addition to this classic meal — their flaky, buttery texture is perfect for soaking up any leftover gravy on the plate. Brushing them with melted butter right after baking keeps the biscuits soft and adds a shiny, flavorful finish. For those looking to make this dish even more special, consider adding a pinch of cayenne pepper to the seasoning mix for a subtle kick or adding fresh herbs like chopped parsley to the gravy before serving. Chicken fried steak is versatile and approachable, making it an ideal recipe for home cooks wanting to serve up traditional Southern comfort food with a personal twist.
