Hey beautiful souls! So, we've all read Galatians 5:22-23, right? "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." It sounds so profound, but sometimes I catch myself thinking, "Am I really living these out?" It’s one thing to say, "I'm a Christian," but like my grandma Clara would say, where is the evidence? Where is the fruit? It's not just about knowing the verse; it's about seeing these qualities manifest in our everyday lives. When I reflect on these nine fruits – love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control – I realize they're not just abstract concepts. They're practical guides for how we engage with the world around us. For instance, what does forbearance look like when a coworker is being difficult, or how does kindness shine through when we're dealing with strangers? It's easy to show these fruits to those we love, but the real test often comes with neighbors, or even those we might consider 'enemies'. Are we walking with the fruits of the Spirit in all our interactions? Sometimes, understanding the fruits means understanding their opposite: the works of the flesh. We can read the Bible and go to church all we want, but if our lives are marked by things like anger, envy, or discord, then we might not be living out God's word as fully as we could be. The beauty of the Fruit of the Spirit is that it's a gift from God, flowing through us when we surrender to Him. It's not about trying harder in our own strength, but allowing the Holy Spirit to cultivate these qualities within us. This is why practical examples are so vital. For me, practicing self-control might mean pausing before reacting in frustration, or choosing forgiveness over holding a grudge. Faithfulness can be as simple as showing up consistently for those who need us, and gentleness means choosing soft words instead of harsh ones, even when provoked. These aren't just big, grand gestures; they're the small, daily choices that define our walk. You might hear about 8 fruits, 9 fruits, or even 12 fruits of the Holy Spirit. While the Catholic tradition often lists 12, the most commonly referenced list from Galatians 5:22-23 in many denominations clearly outlines these nine specific attributes. The point isn't the exact number, but the transformative power of allowing the Spirit to work in us. As Luke 11:28 reminds us, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!" It’s about keeping, living, and embodying His word. So, let’s challenge ourselves: are we actively cultivating love, joy, peace, and all the other fruits in our family interactions, with our friends, and yes, even with our co-workers and strangers? It’s a daily journey, and one that truly transforms our lives and impacts those around us. Father God, thank You for Your perfect example of love & forgiveness. Help us walk in the fruits of the Spirit today & everyday. In Jesus' precious & mighty name, amen.
