Skull Gnocchi 💀 Wickedly delicious & spooky-cute! These purple skull gnocchi simmered in a bubbling orange tomato sauce are the perfect appetizer for your Halloween feast 👻🕸️

Ingredients:

2 large purple sweet potatoes (need 300g cooked)

100g 00 flour (about 3/4 cup)

1 egg yolk

1/4 tsp salt

Skeleton mold: HUAKENER Gummy Skull Molds, 2 Pack (Amazon)

Directions:

Boil purple potatoes until fork tender (about 30-35 min) Allow to cool slightly then peel off the skin. Pass through a potato ricer.

Create a dome in the center of the riced potatoes and add the flour around the perimeter.

Add egg yolk in the dome then use a fork to mix in the rice potatoes.

Use a dough scraper to start incorporating the flour. Once you have a crumble use your hands to form together until you have a smooth ball.

Cut into 4 sections then roll each section into a log.

Cut into smaller sections then press the sections into your skeleton silicone molds.

Freeze for 10 minutes to harden then they should pop right out.

Cook gnochhi in salted boiling water. You know it’s cooked once they float to the top.

Remove and serve with your favorite sauce (I used a spicy vodka sauce for the orange color and added fresh basil to add pops of green)

Enjoy!

... Read moreIf you're looking to elevate your Halloween spread, these purple skull gnocchi make an impressive and delicious centerpiece that's both spooky and charming. Using purple sweet potatoes not only gives the gnocchi a striking violet hue but also adds a subtle sweetness and extra nutrients compared to traditional potatoes. The use of high-grade 00 flour ensures the gnocchi have a tender yet firm texture that holds up well during cooking. Making gnocchi can be intimidating, but this recipe breaks it down simply. Passing the boiled and peeled sweet potatoes through a ricer helps achieve the perfect smooth consistency for the dough. Adding just one egg yolk keeps the gnocchi tender while providing enough binding power. The secret to the skull shape lies in using skeleton silicone molds like the HUAKENER Gummy Skull Molds, which are affordable and easily available online. Freezing the shaped gnocchi slightly before cooking helps them retain their detailed form. When cooking, salt your boiling water generously for flavor, and cook the gnocchi until they float, which indicates they are ready. Toss them in your sauce of choice; the recipe suggests a spicy vodka sauce with fresh basil to complement the purple and orange color scheme of the dish, creating a visually stunning plate perfect for Halloween. For those who want to add more creative flair, experiment with other seasonal sauces such as a smoky chipotle tomato sauce or a creamy pumpkin sauce to introduce more autumnal flavors. Garnishing with fresh herbs or edible flowers can also elevate the presentation. This recipe combines the fun of Halloween-themed food with an authentic, homemade touch, making it great for parties or family dinners. It also encourages creativity and adds an interactive element to meal prep, especially if cooking with kids or friends. Giving traditional gnocchi a spooky twist like this is a fantastic way to celebrate the season while enjoying comforting Italian cuisine with a festive twist.
