the truth about valentine’s day dinner 💔

💔I had high hopes and expectations for this spot only because I had visited in the past and it was very good. However, my experience for #valentinesdayfood was not the best!

🥘I had dinner here for Valentine’s Day and it was a pre-fixe menu meaning it wasn’t their regular a la carte menu so you could only order from the selection offered. Nonetheless, I was hoping it would all still taste amazing but I was disappointed. Most of the dishes were not memorable and the service was very bad. I think also because it was Valentine’s Day, it was super busy which contributed to the negative factors.

⚠️THE TRUTH: if you want to get Valentine’s Day dinner, DO NOT do it on the actual day! restaurants are usually very swamped and busy so service becomes poor because the servers get stressed and the kitchen is overwhelmed. Rather book your reservation on a different day and celebrate either before or after so you get the best restaurant experience!

Seven Reasons
2/4 Edited to

... Read moreValentine's Day is often painted as the epitome of romance, with candlelit dinners and gourmet meals. I've certainly fallen for the allure many times, dreaming of a perfect evening. However, my recent experience, similar to the disappointing dinner at Seven Reasons, has truly opened my eyes to the realities of dining out on February 14th itself. The truth is, while the idea of a romantic Valentine's Day dinner sounds lovely, the execution often leaves much to be desired, making me seriously consider whether Valentine's Day lunch, or even celebrating on an adjacent day, is the superior option. My last Valentine's dinner was a stark reminder of why the actual day can be a trap. The restaurant was overwhelmed – an 80-minute wait despite a reservation, service that felt rushed and impersonal, and a pre-fixe menu that offered limited choices and, frankly, unmemorable food. Dishes like the 4/10 croquette and the 5.5/10 mushroom risotto felt like quantity over quality, a far cry from the usual standards. I even heard other diners complaining about similar issues, from subpar Argentine steak to a less-than-stellar halibut. This made me reflect deeply on the "Valentine's Day lunch vs. dinner" debate. Here’s why I’m leaning towards a Valentine’s Day lunch or an alternative date moving forward: The Case for Valentine's Day Lunch: A Quieter, More Relaxed Vibe: Lunch services are typically less frantic than dinner on a holiday. You're more likely to experience attentive service from a less stressed-out staff. This means your server can actually explain the beet hummus or the special dessert with a heart-shaped item without rushing off. Better Value & Menu Flexibility: Often, lunch menus offer similar quality dishes at a lower price point. You might also find the full a la carte menu available, rather than a restrictive pre-fixe. This means you get more choice and potentially better value for your money. More Intimacy: With fewer crowds, you and your partner can actually hear each other talk. It creates a more intimate and personal atmosphere, which is truly what Valentine's Day should be about, rather than navigating a noisy, bustling dining room. Free Up Your Evening: A romantic lunch leaves your evening open for other activities. Maybe a quiet night in, a movie, or a walk, avoiding the evening rush entirely. It’s a great way to spread the celebration out! The Undeniable Appeal of Celebrating Off-Peak: Beyond lunch, the best advice I ever received (and now wholeheartedly give) is to celebrate Valentine's Day a day or two before or after February 14th. This is where you truly unlock the restaurant's potential. Optimal Service & Food Quality: Restaurants aren't as swamped, so chefs can focus on preparing each dish with care, and servers can provide the excellent service you expect. You're more likely to get that perfectly cooked Argentine steak or a delightful lobster with green pea purée, rather than a rushed version. Full Menu Access: No more expensive, restrictive pre-fixe menus! You can choose exactly what you want from their standard, often more creative, offerings. Relaxed Ambiance: The pressure is off. You can enjoy a truly romantic meal without the frantic energy that permeates restaurants on the actual holiday. Ultimately, the choice between Valentine's Day lunch vs. dinner, or celebrating on an alternative day, boils down to what kind of experience you're hoping for. If you prioritize a calm, intimate, and high-quality dining experience without breaking the bank, skip the traditional Valentine's Day dinner rush. My advice? Book a lovely lunch, or choose February 13th or 15th for your special dinner. You'll thank yourself for avoiding the disappointment and truly enjoy a memorable meal that lives up to your romantic expectations, unlike my unmemorable experience with the unmemorable dishes and 80-minute wait.
