Rating my job as Certified surgical technologist
I enjoy being a CST, I currently work in labor and delivery and it is rewarding.
every job has its pros and cons
I think the pros of these job are very rewarding as far as helping others with their health
assisting doctors
Setting up the patients table
Being the professional of the operating room
Being the patients advocate
We are the eyes of the operating room ensuring no items are left behind in the patient
The pay is good when you have alot of years of experience
As a traveler it’s even better because you have the options to go to other states and cities and work for up to 13 weeks or longer
As a traveler you get paid WEEKLY.
You see things you have never seen before and you learn something new everyday.
You grow thick skin when you work in the operating room and learn not to take things personal.
The program at school takes 1 year and half if you completed your prerequisite classes
Being a CST or scrub tech is a good starter career in the medical field to see if you want to do more. Ex: nurse, rad tech, midwife, doctor, etc…
The cons of the job:
You will feel very unappreciated at times.
When you first start the first couple of years the pay isn’t great, it’s best to gain experience and work at different hospitals or better yet become a CST traveler
Some surgeons, nurses, or operating room personnel can be real assholes.
You’ll have long days standing without having a lunch cause you’re short staffed.
You are pretty much at the bottom of the ladder cause people think you only “pass instruments” to the doctors
The job can be stressful
Long days standing 12 hours +
Any job in the medical field I feel people deserve more pay for their hard work and not the years of experience they have including house keeping!
Overall I enjoy my department labor and delivery and enjoy my job because i help others temporary and helps fund my future plans and goals.
Don’t settle! (This job requires a lot of team work, so if you’re not good at that this job may not be for you!)
