Summers just around the corner, I have to remind myself that I don’t need to worry about how I look to anyone else, I want to look and feel good. I’m not going to cover up, big girls can wear bikinis too 💖 Need more sunny days with my girls 💕
... Read moreIt's a conversation I have with myself every summer, and I know I'm not alone: the dread of swimsuit season. We're constantly bombarded with images of 'perfect' bodies, making us feel like we need to hide away. But guess what? That stops now! My journey to truly embracing my plus-size body in a dark green bikini (or any color, really!) has been incredibly freeing. It started with a simple friendly reminder: just wear the bikini! – a mantra I now live by.
For too long, I let societal pressures dictate how I felt about myself. I'd shy away from beach days or pool parties, missing out on precious memories with my girls, all because I worried about how my body looked in swimwear. But life's too short for that kind of self-sabotage! Whether you're a chubby bikini enthusiast, an average 65 year old woman looking to enjoy the sun, or anyone in between, your body is absolutely worthy of being celebrated.
So, how do we get there? It's not an overnight switch, but a journey of self-love and acceptance. Here are a few things that have helped me:
Find Your Fit: Don't settle for swimsuits that pinch, pull, or make you feel uncomfortable. Explore different styles – high-waisted bottoms, tankinis, one-pieces with ruching – until you find what makes you feel amazing. Comfort is key to confidence!
Focus on How You Feel, Not How You Look: Shift your perspective. Instead of fixating on perceived flaws, focus on the joy of swimming, playing in the sand, or just soaking up the sun. Remember why you're there: to make memories and have fun.
Positive Self-Talk: Catch those negative thoughts and challenge them. Instead of 'I look awful,' try 'I am strong and beautiful, and I deserve to enjoy this.'
Surround Yourself with Support: My girls are amazing. They uplift me and remind me that our worth isn't tied to our dress size. Find your tribe who celebrates you, imperfections and all.
Accessorize with Confidence: A stylish cover-up, a wide-brimmed hat, or fun sunglasses can add to your look and make you feel more put-together, if that's what makes you feel good. It's about enhancing your comfort, not hiding.
It’s about reclaiming your summer joy. Don't let numbers on a scale or outdated beauty standards steal your sunshine. Every wrinkle, every curve, every scar tells a story, and they are all part of your unique beauty. So, go ahead, grab that dark green bikini, head to the beach, and rock it with all the confidence you've got. Because truly, every body is a swimsuit body – including yours! Let's make this a summer of unapologetic self-love and unforgettable moments.
