How I’m Standing Out as a Brand New Realtor

When I got my real estate license, I remember feeling both excited and completely lost.

Everyone tells you “just put yourself out there,” but no one really explains what that actually means.

I didn’t have a real estate mentor. I didn’t come from a family of investors. I wasn’t even sure what niche I wanted to focus on.

All I knew was: I cared. I cared about helping people. I cared about making this career work. And I cared about not being just another name on a business card.

But the truth? In the beginning, it felt like I was shouting into the void. I posted on Instagram, showed up to events, emailed friends — and nothing really happened.

No calls. No leads. Just crickets.

Here’s what I wish someone told me back then: you don’t need to go viral. You need to be visible and valuable — consistently.

So instead of waiting to be "ready" or "polished," I started sharing my real journey:

• The awkward open house where no one showed up

• Learning how to manage work in two different boroughs

• How I found my first real lead from a social event

And slowly… it started to work.

People began to trust me not because I had the most experience, but because I was real. Because I showed up when it didn’t benefit me. Because I listened. Because I explained things without making people feel dumb.

Here’s what helped me stand out as a new agent:

1. I showed my face. No logos, no generic quotes. I let people get to know me.

2. I educated instead of sold. I shared what I was learning as I was learning it.

3. I niched down. I started helping first-time renters and buyers because I understood their questions—I was that person not too long ago.

4. I followed up relentlessly. Even when someone ghosted me, I’d check in weeks later with something helpful.

5. I built relationships outside of real estate. Some of my best referrals came from people I met at networking events, brand activations, even group fitness classes.

So if you’re new and feeling like no one’s noticing you, I promise—people are watching.

They’re just waiting to see if you’re serious before they reach out.

Don’t rush to be the “top producer.” Just focus on being top-of-mind to the right people.

You never know who’s been quietly rooting for you until they finally say, “Hey, I’ve been following you for a while… can you help me find a place?”

Keep showing up. Keep sharing your story. It matters more than you think.
