Mastering Virtual Meetings as a Realtor

When I interviewed for my first real estate position, the process started online before we ever met in person.

At first, I underestimated how much presence matters even through a screen.

I made sure to prepare my talking points, but I didn’t fully think about things like lighting, camera angle, or background.

Looking back, I realize — showing up well on video is part of showing up professionally.

Thankfully, the conversation went great because I focused on being clear, prepared, and genuine — but that first interview taught me something important:

Presentation isn’t just about what you say — it’s also about what people see and feel.

Here’s what I do now before every virtual meeting, whether it’s with a client, a broker, or a team lead:

🔹 Good lighting. Natural light or a ring light facing me so I don’t look like I’m in a shadow.

🔹 Camera at eye level. I raise my laptop or use a stand — looking straight into the camera feels way more natural.

🔹 Neutral background. Clean, simple, professional — I want the focus to be on me, not on what’s behind me.

🔹 Dress the part. Even if it’s just a video call, I wear what I would for an in-person meeting — it helps me show up sharper and more confidently.

🔹 Bring positive energy. It’s easy to seem flat on video, so I make an effort to smile, sit tall, and speak clearly — the little things really do translate.

First impressions matter, whether you’re walking into a conference room or logging onto Zoom.

That first interview helped me land the opportunity — and taught me early on that your online presence is just as much a part of your brand as your handshake or listing photos.
