For the Crab Balls:
1 lb crabmeat
½ cup mayonnaise
1 large egg
1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp Louisiana hot sauce (or more to taste)
1 tsp Old Bay seasoning
Pinch of salt, to taste
2/3 cup bread crumbs or cracker crumbs
For the Crumb Coat:
1 cup bread crumbs or cracker crumbs
4 Tbsp melted butter (for brushing)
For the Dipping Sauce (Optional):
½ cup mayonnaise
2 Tbsp hot sauce (or more to taste)
Pinch of salt
Squeeze of fresh lemon juice
Directions:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the crabmeat, mayonnaise, egg, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, hot sauce, Old Bay seasoning, salt, and bread crumbs. Mix until well combined.
Shape the mixture into small, golf ball-sized crab balls.
Roll each crab ball in the crumb coat, ensuring they are evenly coated.
Place the coated crab balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush each one lightly with melted butter to ensure they crisp up.
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the crab balls for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside.
While the crab balls are baking, prepare the dipping sauce by mixing the mayonnaise, hot sauce, salt, and lemon juice in a small bowl.
Serve the crispy crab balls with the dipping sauce on the side.
