Hey candle lovers! We all know there's nothing quite like the feeling of a freshly cleaned house, and for me, that feeling isn't complete without the perfect candle burning. My current obsession, as you saw, includes incredible scents like White Barn's 'Laundry Day,' 'Lakeside Morning,' and 'Sundrenched Linen' – they truly amplify that clean vibe! But beyond just picking a great scent, I've learned a few tricks to make your favorite candles last longer and burn beautifully, which I wanted to share. First up, let's talk about the first burn. This is crucial! When you light a new candle, especially a larger one, make sure you let it burn long enough for the entire top layer of wax to melt evenly across the jar. This creates what's called a 'melt pool.' Skipping this step can lead to 'tunneling,' where the wick burns straight down the middle, leaving a lot of wax on the sides. You'll end up wasting so much fragrant wax, and nobody wants that! Next, wick trimming is a total game-changer. Before every burn, I make sure to trim my candle wick to about 1/4 inch. This prevents a mushroom-shaped wick, which can cause excessive soot (black smoke) and an uneven burn. A trimmed wick also helps your candle burn slower and more efficiently, meaning you get to enjoy those amazing scents like crisp air from 'Lakeside Morning' or the fresh eucalyptus of 'Laundry Day' for much longer. And of course, safety first! Always place your burning candle on a heat-resistant surface, away from anything flammable like curtains, papers, or even pets and children. Never leave a lit candle unattended, even for a moment. I usually burn my candles for no more than 3-4 hours at a time. This helps prevent the jar from overheating and can also prolong the candle's life by preventing the wick from getting too long and creating a larger flame than intended. While fresh and clean scents are my go-to for a post-cleaning refresh, I also love to switch up my candle choices to match different moods or seasons. For a cozy, relaxing evening, I might reach for something with notes of vanilla, sandalwood, or lavender. If I need an energy boost or something uplifting, citrus or peppermint scents are fantastic. During the holidays, I adore pine and spiced fragrances. Exploring different scent profiles can really enhance your home's atmosphere for any occasion. Choosing a quality candle also makes a difference. Look for candles made with good wax blends – soy or coconut wax often burn cleaner and longer than traditional paraffin. Also, consider the 'scent throw,' which is how well the fragrance spreads throughout the room. Brands like Bath & Body Works and White Barn are known for their great scent throw, which is why I'm so obsessed with their candles like the 'Sundrenched Linen' that fills my home with a beautiful, clean aroma. So go forth, enjoy your candles, and make every burn count!
