Color coding classes

I color code my classes every year! It makes my schedule look cleaner and I have each class on Canvas labeled with the coordinating colors as well! It’s a great way to help separate your corses, especially if you are taking quite a few! #college #lemon8challenge #letschat

... Read moreMy college journey completely transformed once I started color-coding my classes, and I'm so excited to share how it can help you too! Before, my notes for 'Developmental and Individual Differences' would often get mixed up with 'Educational Technology' or 'Writing & Rhetoric.' It was a chaotic mess that added so much unnecessary stress to my study routine. But then I discovered the magic of assigning a specific color to each course, and it truly helps to neutralize the overwhelming feeling of a packed academic schedule. Here’s my personal system, which you can easily adapt: I pick a distinct color for each class, like pink for 'Developmental Individual Differences,' orange for 'Educational Technology,' yellow for 'Writing & Rhetoric,' green for 'Personal Finance,' blue for 'Intro to Psychology,' and purple for 'Theatre Appreciation.' I make sure to have plenty of colorful pens and highlighters in all these shades – they’re my essential tools! Then, every time I'm taking notes, creating flashcards, outlining chapters, or even just updating my Canvas calendar, I use that specific color. It's not just about aesthetics; it’s about creating a powerful visual shortcut for my brain. When I see green, I immediately think of Personal Finance. This simple trick helps to neutralize visual clutter and makes information retrieval incredibly fast. Beyond just notes, I extend this system to everything. My physical folders for handouts and assignments match the class color, and on Canvas, I’ve adjusted the course icons or labels to coordinate. This consistent approach makes navigating my academic life so much smoother. It’s like creating a personalized, intuitive dashboard for my brain. No more fumbling through pages trying to remember which lecture was for what. This systematic use of color truly helps to neutralize potential mix-ups and reduces mental fatigue during intense study sessions. I even use a small color key in my planner so I can quickly glance at my week and know exactly which subject I’m tackling. One of the unexpected benefits I found is how it boosts my mood. A visually organized workspace, complete with vibrant colors, can make studying feel less daunting and more engaging. It turns what could be a dull task into something a bit more enjoyable. Plus, it’s a fantastic way to visually track your workload for each class. If you see a lot of blue notes piling up, you know Intro to Psychology is demanding more attention that week! This self-awareness helps in neutralizing procrastination by making your tasks feel more manageable. If you’re looking for a way to bring more order and clarity to your college studies, I highly recommend giving color-coding a try. It’s a simple, low-cost hack that yields huge benefits. Not only does it make your schedule look cleaner, but it also helps you absorb and recall information more efficiently. It neutralizes the chaos and replaces it with a streamlined, visually appealing system that supports your learning journey. Trust me, once you start, you'll wonder how you ever managed without it!
