Meet Petunia
Hey everyone! I wanted to share a little more about my adorable new original character, Petunia, who I'm so thrilled about. You know how much I love finding inspiration in nature, and for Petunia, the symbolism of the petunia flower itself became a huge part of her identity as a forest Leshy. When I was thinking about a name for her, I stumbled upon all the fascinating meanings associated with petunias, and it just clicked. These beautiful, often vibrant flowers carry such a rich tapestry of symbolism. Historically, petunias have been seen to represent a range of emotions, from deep love and desire to anger and resentment, and even a feeling of peace or comfort. It’s quite a spectrum, isn't it? This duality really inspired me for Petunia, my Leshy character, who is born of the forest and its flowers. For my Petunia, the idea of her being 'born of the flowers' immediately connected to the petunia's symbolism of nature and delicate beauty. Yet, petunias are also known for their hardiness and ability to thrive, which hints at a quiet strength, much like a forest spirit. She's described as slim, with her arms often hidden, which to me speaks to a certain humility or perhaps a mysterious aura, aligning with the more introspective meanings of the flower. And her unique way of absorbing water? That felt like a perfect echo of the flower’s need for nourishment, symbolizing life-giving aspects, adaptability, and perhaps even emotional depth within her character. I also love how the Leshy mythology, with its connection to wild forests, allows me to explore some of the more complex meanings of the petunia. While often associated with sweetness, the flower’s symbolism can also touch on feelings of anger or resentment. This lets me imagine Petunia as a guardian of the forest who isn't afraid to protect her home, embodying the wilder, untamed aspects of nature. This contrast adds so many layers to her personality and potential storylines. Different colors of petunias also carry unique interpretations – purple for royalty and mystery, white for purity and innocence, pink for femininity and love. While my Petunia isn't tied to one specific color, thinking about these variations allows me to imagine different moods or phases of her character. It's like each petal holds a secret about her world! Honestly, diving into flower symbolism has made creating Petunia so much more enriching. It's not just about drawing a pretty character; it's about giving her a soul, a history, and a future rooted in deeper meanings. It’s amazing how much depth you can add to a character by simply exploring the symbolism behind their name.
