How I remove sticky stuff
I found out acetone removes the leftover sticky from labels. Does anyone else reuse jars?
Removing sticky residue can be a challenging task, especially when it comes to labels on jars or containers. Acetone is a powerful solvent that easily dissolves the adhesive, making it a go-to choice for many. In addition to acetone, other methods like using vinegar, baking soda, or commercial adhesive removers can also be effective. For environmentally conscious individuals, reusing jars is a sustainable choice, transforming them into storage solutions or decorative items. Before reusing, ensure the jars are thoroughly cleaned to avoid any residual stickiness or odors. if you decide acetone isn't something you want to use on food safe jars, you can make a paste with baking soda and oil (canola, vegetable, olive, coconut), wipe that paste on the sticky and let it dry, then hand wash it with a sponge with the scrubby side(we don't have a dishwasher we hand wash over here) then it comes off clean and no harsh chemicals. my normal routine is to soak the jar in warm soapy water, remove the label, make the paste and apply it to the sticky if any is left over, set it to dry while I wash the rest of the dishes, then end up leaving it by accident until I wash dishes again. i use the scrub daddy 4 pack of sponges, and that has the scrubby side and a soft side. we don't waste glass jars in this neck of the woods.
