Okay, so you're dreaming of Italy, and trust me, it's even better than you imagine! Planning my own 2-week adventure from Milan to Rome, with a magical stop in Florence, taught me so much. If you're looking to kick off your Italian journey in Milan, you've made a great choice. Milan Malpensa (MXP) is a major international airport, making arrivals super easy. From there, hop on a train to Milano Centrale, and you're right in the heart of the city, ready to explore. One of the biggest questions is always accommodation, right? For our trip, we mixed it up to get a real feel for each city. In Milan, a chic hotel room near the Duomo was perfect for easy access to sights like the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and, of course, indulging in some serious shopping! Milan also offers incredible culinary experiences; don't miss out on trying a traditional Risotto alla Milanese. Next up was Florence, and let me tell you, finding that charming bungalow in Florence was a game-changer. It gave us a cozy, authentic experience away from the bustling city center, but still close enough to walk to iconic spots like the Uffizi Gallery and Ponte Vecchio. Florence is a dream for art lovers, and the food... oh, the food! Seek out a local trattoria for some amazing pasta dishes and don't forget to try the gelato – it's a must! We even found a fantastic wine tasting tour in the Tuscan hills nearby, which was an unforgettable highlight. Finally, Rome! Our apartment in Rome, just a short walk from the Pantheon, felt like living like a local. From there, we easily explored the majestic Colosseum, wandered through the Roman Forum, and made a wish at the iconic Trevi Fountain. A visit to the Vatican City, including St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museums, is also an absolute must. To get around, we mostly walked, but the metro and even scooters are great options for covering longer distances. Remember to pre-book tickets for major attractions like the Colosseum and Vatican to save hours of waiting in line. Beyond the main sights, I always recommend diving into the local culture. Find a market, people-watch at a piazza with an espresso, or simply get lost in the charming backstreets. For foodies, trying authentic tiramisu is essential, and every region has its unique pasta variations to explore. Don't be afraid to ask locals for recommendations – they often know the best hidden gems! This itinerary truly allowed us to experience the best of Italy, from its vibrant cities to its rich history and incredible cuisine, all in a practical and unforgettable two-week journey.
