So thankful for all the people who have helped River grow. From his special ed teacher, his gen ed teacher, para, bcba, speech therapist, and so many others.

This last year has been hard, but I’m truly so grateful for the teachers who advocate for him when I’m not there.

If you’re a teacher, don’t forget YOU’RE making a difference ❤️

I've come to deeply appreciate the tremendous role educators and specialists play in shaping not just academic skills but social and emotional development as well. From special education teachers to applied behavior analysts (BCBAs) and speech therapists, each professional brings invaluable insight and support tailored to my child's unique needs. One crucial aspect I've learned is the power of consistent advocacy. When I cannot be present, knowing that there are dedicated teachers and paraeducators who stand up for my son's needs provides immense relief and comfort. Their efforts ensure accommodations are in place, communication is ongoing, and progress is carefully monitored, which collectively fosters a nurturing environment where my son can thrive. Teacher Appreciation Week always reminds me how essential it is to recognize these advocates. Their patience, creativity, and unwavering commitment often go unnoticed but profoundly impact families like mine. I encourage fellow parents and educators to celebrate every small victory and remember that teaching is not just a profession but a mission to make a difference in children's lives. Moreover, the collaborative approach involving different specialists—speech therapists working on communication, BCBAs focusing on behavioral strategies, and general education teachers reinforcing inclusion—creates a comprehensive support network. This multidisciplinary teamwork maximizes my child's development opportunities, revealing the importance of integrated care. In sharing my experience, I hope to inspire more awareness about the unique challenges children with autism and ADHD face and to highlight how educators' advocacy can transform these challenges into milestones. If you’re a teacher or therapist, please know that your dedication changes lives, and as a parent, I am profoundly grateful for your impact.
