About time a brotha uses common sense

... Read moreIn recent times, conversations around success and recognition—especially for Black men in high-profile industries—have highlighted the need for common sense and respect. For example, Michael B. Jordan’s career achievements, such as his acclaimed performances and award considerations like the Oscars, represent more than just personal milestones; they open doors and create role models for many. What I’ve found is that when someone like Jordan wins or gets recognized, there's often an attempt by others to interject themselves into the narrative or redirect attention away from the hard work and dedication that deservedly earned that spotlight. This is where common sense plays a pivotal role: understanding when to step back, celebrate genuinely, and respect the moment for what it truly represents. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian have publicly spoken on this, urging others to 'keep me out of it' to avoid shifting focus from accomplishments with unrelated commentary. From my experience, recognizing others’ success means appreciating their journey without imposing our agendas or expectations on the narrative. Applying common sense in these situations means valuing the work it takes to reach prestigious platforms, whether in entertainment, business, or social impact. It involves acknowledging that success, especially for marginalized groups, is hard-earned and should not be overshadowed by external distractions. In everyday life, this attitude translates to being supportive of peers' achievements and fostering an environment where people can thrive without unnecessary interference. Respecting boundaries and celebrating accomplishments authentically helps build stronger communities and encourages more people to pursue their goals without fear of narrative hijacking. Ultimately, using common sense in these contexts not only promotes positivity but also honors the cultural and personal significance of these victories.
