Reaction to Dan Da Dan!!

I've been seeing a lot of buzz about Dan Da Dan lately, and if you're like me, you might be wondering, "Is this anime something I should watch with my younger siblings, or maybe recommend to a friend with kids?" That's why I wanted to share my perspective on why a 'parents guide' is definitely a good idea for this series. It's not your average shonen, that's for sure! From the get-go, Dan Da Dan plunges you into a world brimming with the paranormal. We're talking about curses, aliens, and a whole host of spirits – good and bad. The dialogue I encountered, like someone saying, "I do believe in ghosts" and also "Don't you mock the occult!" because these themes are central. Characters encounter ghosts and yokai frequently, and some of these encounters can be quite unsettling. It's not always jump-scares, but the designs of some entities and the situations they create can be genuinely creepy. Plus, if you recall, one of the characters even has a grandma who's a spirit medium, which adds another layer to the supernatural exploration. Then there's the action. Oh boy, the action! The fights in Dan Da Dan are chaotic, creative, and often visually intense. When I heard lines like, "you ever seen exorcism? It's really wicked! The possessed person goes into convulsions!", it perfectly captured some of the wild energy. Characters get transformed, bodies are distorted, and there are moments of genuine peril. It’s not gory in a typical horror sense, but the sheer kinetic energy and the often grotesque forms of the enemies can be a lot for sensitive viewers. It definitely pushes boundaries with its visuals, making you question what's real and what's supernatural. Despite all the supernatural intensity, Dan Da Dan also has a unique brand of humor that often leans into the absurd and occasionally, the suggestive. While it's usually played for laughs, some of the jokes or situations might be a bit much for younger audiences to fully grasp or for parents to feel comfortable explaining. It's a blend of horror, action, and comedy that sometimes feels like a rollercoaster of emotions. The dialogue, as hinted by phrases like, "Sorry, that was a bit much," can be quite sharp and occasionally adult in its undertones. So, based on my watch-through, I'd say Dan Da Dan is probably best suited for older teens and adults. It's a fantastic series for those who appreciate a unique blend of supernatural horror, action, and quirky comedy. However, for a true 'parents guide' perspective, be prepared for intense supernatural depictions, some chaotic violence, and humor that isn't always kid-friendly. It's a blast, but definitely something to preview or discuss before showing it to younger viewers!
