Hey everyone! I wanted to share a bit more about the incredible Chicagohenge phenomenon that our city is so famous for. Honestly, before I really looked into it, I just thought it was a pretty sunset, but it's so much more! This amazing celestial event, where the rising or setting sun perfectly aligns with Chicago's east-west street grid, only happens twice a year. It's like our very own urban Stonehenge, but with skyscrapers! I remember my first time trying to catch it; I went without much planning and ended up in a crowded spot with a partial view. Lesson learned! Now, I always make sure to get there a bit early to secure a good spot. Speaking of spots, the article mentions some great ones. Personally, I've had fantastic luck along Washington Street, especially near Millennium Park. The wide-open space gives you an unobstructed view right down the canyon of buildings. Another hidden gem I've found is standing on one of the bridges over the Chicago River that align east-west – the reflections on the water add an extra layer of magic to your photos! To really make the most of your Chicagohenge experience, here are a few personal tips: Arrive Early: Especially if it's a clear day, the popular spots fill up fast. Aim for at least 30-45 minutes before the stated alignment time. Check the Forecast: A clear horizon is key. Overcast skies can really dampen the effect. Bring Your Camera: This is a photographer's dream! Wide-angle lenses work wonders for capturing the entire streetscape bathed in golden light. Don't forget your phone too – even a smartphone can get stunning shots if you frame it right. Look East AND West: While the main show is often the setting sun (as in the upcoming 9/21 event), remember that the rising sun also creates a Chicagohenge. Dress Appropriately: Depending on the season, it can get chilly, especially if you're waiting around. Be Patient & Enjoy: The actual alignment is brief, but the pre-show and post-glow can be just as beautiful. Take a moment to just soak it all in. It's truly one of those unique Chicago experiences that makes you appreciate our city's architecture and natural beauty all at once. The fact that this famous Chicago henge only happens 2x a year makes it feel extra special. Seeing that giant orb of sun squarely between the buildings is breathtaking every single time. If you missed the spring alignment, definitely mark your calendar for September 21st at 6:48 PM. It’s completely free and one of the best ways to celebrate the change of seasons here in the Windy City. I hope you get to experience this magic for yourselves!
